Seventy years after its proclamation, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, despite not having a binding force for the states, still provides at international level the fundamental text from which the principles and the values for the preservation of liberty and right of people are taken. In this article, the author particularly underlines the importance of Declaration’s Article 1, which states: “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. With these words the Declaration presses states to undertake economic policies aimed at achieving economic and social progress for all individuals. Unfortunately, we also have to underline the lack of effective social policies in government programs of the E.U. Member States. The author inquires whether it is left to European judges to affirm the importance of social welfare
How to Evaluate an Employee’s “Smartworkability”? Life Stories With Daily Dilemmas in a Double-Mixed Research Design
Companies often face the need to select and train personnel on the basis of their ability to manage remote work in an adequate and responsible manner, thanks to specific soft skills and a
specific attitude to work, that, with a neologism, we can define “smarkworkability.” This case
study illustrates how a new tool was invented for evaluating this specific ability of the candidates,
combining both quantitative with quantitative techniques and the self-evaluation of the workers
with the hetero-evaluation by their bosses.
The main novelty of the tool consists in the administration of some stories that come from everyday life dilemmas (e.g., behavior in front of a traffic light, choice of a trip for the holiday, etc.)
to the candidate and which allows the employer to evaluate his/her aptitude for smartworking
on these dimensions: sense of responsibility, proactivity, loyalty, interpersonal skills, stress management, ability to self-organize, result in orientation, ability to work in a team, and focused communication.
The case is a step-by-step guide for understanding the methodological choices adopted for the
construction of a useful evaluation tool for companie
Gender and professionalism: Still a black box a call for research, debate and action. Suggestions from and beyond the pandemic crisis
The gender-professionalism nexus is the source of persistent inequalities in our society. Its continuing relevance emerges even more in the pandemic crisis as a revealing context of social dynamics, showing a “differential in visibility” among welfare professionals, associated with gender, status and power. The attribution of “masculine” and “feminine” connotations (re)produces structures of inequality: there are male/dominant and female/subordinate professions. The exploration of this nexus reveals the existence of two polar meanings of care and body work, as well as two conceptions of professionalism and citizenship. Caring as “therapy” is related to “work on the body” and reflects a classical conception of professionalism aimed at client-citizens; whereas caring as “to care for” is related to “work with and between bodies” and meets better new professionalism aimed at active citizens. Considering gender as professional practice ideology highlights how “gender commonality” is not a solution to inequalities. Furthermore, it can contribute to the deconstruction of the dominance structures. In a such research agenda, narratives of professionals are the key to open the black box. Taking up the challenge to open the gender-professionalism black box is not just a matter of research, but of political action, starting from academia itself

Glucosinolate profile of barbarea vulgaris seeds evaluated by lc-esi-fticr mass spectrometry
An important group of bioactive components occurring in Barbarea
vulgaris seeds are glucosinolates (GLSs), which are sulfur-rich plant
secondary metabolites (1). B. vulgaris is a vegetable belonging to
Brassicaceae family and considered as a food supplement. Liquid
chromatography with electrospray ionization coupled with Fouriertransform
ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-FTICR MS)
and tandem MS, performed by infrared multiphoton dissociation (IRMPD)
in the high-resolution trapping cell, were employed to identify GLSs and
their derivatives in extracts of B. vulgaris seeds. Along with most common
GLSs and derivatives already found in B. vulgaris seeds such as
glucoarabihirsuin, glucobarbarin, glucobrassicin, gluconasturtiin, 6’-
isoferuloyl-glucobarbarin, 6’-isoferuloyl-glucobrassicin and 6’-isoferuloylgluconasturtiin
(2), the occurrence of the uncommon 6’-cumaroylglucobarbarin
and 6’-dimethoxycinnamoyl-glucobarbarin is reported.
Besides, the presence of five additional GLSs, viz. glucocapparin, sinigrin,
glucoelongatin, glucoarabihirin, glucoerucin, was found for the first time.
On the basis of their fragmentation behavior, all compounds were
successfully identified with mass errors lower than +1.7 ppm. All GLSs and
derivative-GLSs were characterized by several product ions, including the
HSO4 ̄ ion at m/z 96.96012, being a good clue for a compound belonging to
the GLS family. Moreover, typical fragments derived from thioglucoside
moiety and from the side-chain were observed (3,4). It was confirmed that
the profiles of isoferuloyl derivatives matched the profiles of non-acylated
GSLs (2).

Even more in the pandemic and social emergency: for an individual welfare beyond the family and the community
In many welfare regimes, families and communities are often considered as social policy solutions to the extent that they are called into action to provide support and care services. The resort to ‘family’ and ‘community’ seems to contrast the atomization of today’s society, but it entails two risks: first, the privatization of welfare; second, the exclusion of the most fragile and needy people, as well as individuals without a network. The COVID-19 pandemics have made these risks even more evident: the crisis has exacerbated the centrality of informal networks in producing welfare services and helps. These are the reasons why it is necessary to reflect on the need to primarily develop an individual – rather than a family and community – welfare
