Federalismo.

Imaging techniques applied to quality controlof concrete materials obtained from the utilisation of pre-mixed ready to use products

The utilization of mixtures mainly composed of cement, gravel, water and, sometimes, specific additives represent a common practice in the civil construction sector. Such mixtures originate what is usually and simply called “concrete”. Different concrete types can be realised according to a different utilisation of the different constituting materials, both in terms of single component characteristics and their relative amount. As a consequence the quality control process of the different phases, allowing to realise a concrete of the desired quality, represents one of the fundamental steps in the production process. To control concrete quality a lot of well established and reliable measuring control methods exist. They are finalised to physically, or chemically, evaluate specific attributes of the constituting and/or the final set materials. The adopted approaches do not allow to correctly identify and quantify an important phenomena whose entity can prejudiced the final quality of concrete, in terms of mechanical strength, insulating property, aesthetic attributes, etc., that is “segregation”. Such a term is referred to the possibility that during setting, specific phenomena, related to particulate solids fractions characteristics, occur, causing the production of a concrete of not homogeneous mass characteristics. In this paper an attempt to define a set of procedures to fully characterise and quantify segregation adopting an imaging based logic is presented, analysed and discussed with reference to industrial pre-mixed and ready to use concrete. A comparison is also made between the proposed imaging based techniques and the analyses usually carried out, at industrial laboratory scale, for standard quality control

Tempera quasi aurum: Origine, redazione e diffusione del Liber Testimoniorum di Paterio

Of the three volumes which are deemed to have constituted the original Liber Testimoniorum by Gregory the Great’s notarius Paterius, only the first one has survi- ved, while the other two have always been considered as lost due to some accident intervened at an early stage of the manuscript transmission. Starting from a careful analysis of the manuscript tradition and of the pioneering studies by Wilmart and Étaix, the paper concludes that the Liber Testimoniorum was never brought to an end. Paterius probably collected from Gregory’s works all the material considered suffi- cient to realize the exegetical commentary to the whole Bible, but he actually was able to make a revision and give final shape only to the part that goes from Gene- sis to the book of Psalms. The manuscript tradition attests two further sections, on Proverbs and on Canticle of Canticles, which represent the only surviving part of the extensive material collected, but never revised by Paterius, for the final version of his work. The reason that caused the interruption of the drafting process is pro- bably to be seen in Gregory’s decision to revise the text of his Homelies on Ezechiel, approximately in 601/602. The paper also explores the literary production of Tajo of Saragossa, who is the main – and presently sole known – representative of the Liber Testimoniorum‘s first indirect tradition until the eighth century. After having demonstrated Tajo’s au- thorship of the biblical commentaries contained in a manuscript from Lérida, the authors conclude that the visigotic bishop used in his own works only the revised part of the Liber Testimoniorum (Genesis - Psalms) and that, conversely, he seems not to have known and made use of the rough and unrevised material on Proverbs and Canticle. This can be considered an additional evidence for the hypothesis that the notarius never concluded his anthology. Finally, the article provides a diachronic stemma codicum of Paterius’ Liber testimoniorum, based on the principal loci critici of the most ancient manuscripts

Seeding patterns: the sources of regional diversification

    No full text
Relatedness has been largely acknowledged as a major driver of regional diversification: new industries grow out of technologically related industries by means of combinatorial knowledge dynamics and branching processes. However, by emphasizing the role of firms and entrepreneurs in new path creation, evolutionary scholars have not only underplayed the role of extra-regional actors, linkages and networks, but also the role of national state strategies and wider political economic relations. The research seeks to advance our knowledge and evidence about regional industrial diversification by tackling specific gaps in the literature in three distinct but interdependent contributions. The first paper proposes a systematization of the debate on related vs. unrelated diversification, with a focus on the latter and its implications for uneven regional development and sustainability transitions. The second paper analyses the role of two sets of drivers, namely technological relatedness and innovation policies, on the emergence of new Revealed Technological Advantages in the United States (1981-2010), providing evidence for both drivers by means of econometric estimations. The third paper deploys the concept of «related variety», as formulated by Boschma (2005) and Frenken, van Oort and Verburg (2007), to verify if well-diversified and interdependent creative industries determine more pronounced local creative employment growth in the Italian provinces (2008-2010), with corroborating findings
