Dr. Carpenter Wins Fulbright Award
Dr. Coy C. Carpenter, founding dean of Bowman Gray School of Medicine, was awarded the Fulbright visiting professorship in pathology for a nine-month lecture series in Cairo, Egypt that began in 1954. His application and acceptance was based on his previous foreign travel and a career of 27 years as a specialist in pathology. The program was sponsored by the State Department and the Board of Foreign Scholarships, which promotes Educational Exchange Services. Under the terms of the award received by Dr. Carpenter, he lectured at the Ibrahim Pasha University Medical School, the Medical College of the University of Cairo and made as many special lecture appearances as his schedule would allow. He also used a portion of the time there doing cancer research. Pictured in Cairo Egypt with officials are: Dr. Coy C.
