The Death and Resurrection of Dialogue
On Friday, March 11, 2022, the Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution hosted the Melnick Annual Symposium on “The Death and Resurrection of Dialogue.”
This Symposium examined the potential of the news media to develop public discourse and prevent conflict, the importance of dialogue and civic engagement in community building, methods to bridge inequalities in communities and in mediation, and the effect of virtual and caucus-only mediation on conflict resolution.
The Journal also presented the twenty-first annual International Advocate for Peace Award to William Ury, co-founder of Harvard’s Program on Negotiation and one of the world’s leading experts on negotiation and mediation. The 2024 International Advocate for Peace Award Ceremony Honoring Dr. Richard Haass
The Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution will present this year’s award to Dr. Richard Haass, President Emeritus of the Council on Foreign Relations and Senior Counselor with Centerview Partners. Dr. Haass chaired the multiparty negotiations in Northern Ireland that provided the 2014 Stormont House Agreement, earning him the 2013 Tipperary International Peace Award. Dr. Haass also served as the Director of Policy Planning of the U.S. Department of State under Secretary Powell from 2001 to 2003 during which he played a pivotal role in shaping U.S. foreign policy and addressing global challenges. He is the author or editor of fourteen books on American foreign policy, one book on management and one on American democracy. His latest book is titled The Bill of Obligations: The Ten Habits of Good Citizens. The 22nd International Advocate for Peace Award
The Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution presents the International Advocate for Peace (IAP) Award to an individual, organization or group that is exemplary in the field of conflict resolution.
This year, the Journal presents the IAP Award to Gloria Steinem, who has dedicated her life to standing up to power and seeking ways to bring about peaceful change. Jed D. Melnick Annual Symposium: Presumptive ADR and Court Systems of the Future
On Friday, October 23, 2020, the Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution hosted the Melnick Annual Symposium on “Presumptive ADR and Court Systems of the Future.” This Symposium was inspired by Chief Judge Janet DiFiore’s bold new Presumptive ADR initiative for the New York Courts.
