Importance of Backbones in the Dynamics of Neuronal Networks
Treballs Finals de Grau de Física, Facultat de Física, Universitat de Barcelona, Curs: 2026, Tutors: Alessio Cardillo, Jordi SorianoThis project investigates the collective dynamics of neuronal networks obtained from an experimental culture and several structural backbone models. The network dynamics are simulated using the Izhikevich model under different levels of noise and excitatory strength. The study compares the collective behavior of the real culture network and the synthetic topologies, namely: the random geometric graph, the minimum spanning tree, and the efficiency cost optimization. To characterize the emerging dynamics, measures of global synchronization and functional complexity are applied to the spiking activity. These metrics allow for a systematic comparison of the dynamical regimes associated with each topology. The results reveal significant differences in synchronization patterns and complexity across network structures, indicating that the observed phenomenology is strongly influenced by the underlying topology
Authors, languages and potential translations in Ibero-American cultural periodicals (1898-1959), with VIAF linked author data
The dataset provides data on contributors—authors of contributions/articles—to Ibero-American cultural periodicals from the first half of 20th century. Using basic information like article titles and authorship as a starting point, we have retrieved a set of 60987 potential authors to 292186 articles in 309 periodicals published between 1898 and 1959, held in online repositories or libraries located in Argentina, Spain, Portugal, and Germany, all related to Spanish-speaking and Lusophone literary and cultural magazines. By applying machine learning and natural language processing tools, as well as by linking the author's names against the Virtual International Authority File (VIAF), we provide enriched information on gender, language, and nationality for about 66% of the initially identified contributor names, responsible for about 26% of the articles. We identify potential translations—loosely defined as texts published in a language different from the author’s native or writing language—and the presence of foreign authors in the Ibero-American cultural press
The Pottesman Collection in the British Museum. Early Dynastic and Sargonic administrative texts. With an Appendix on a Palmyrene Inscription
Edizione, trascrizione, traduzione e commento di un frammento di iscrizione palmirena inedita presente nella collezione Pottesman del British Museum (Appendice Agostini). The British Museum houses a small collection of six cuneiform tablets and a Palmyrene dedicatory inscription purchased in 1987 from the private collection of Solomon Pottesman. The aim of the present contribution is to provide a catalog of this lot and an edition of the so far unpublished cuneiform texts. In the appendix, Alessio Agostini added the edition of the Palmyrene inscription, which would have otherwise gone beyond the capabilities of the present author

Handheld-Impedance-Measurement System with seven-decade capability and potentiostatic function
This paper describes design and test of a new impedance-measurement system for nonlinear devices that exhibits a seven-decade range and works down to a frequency of 0.01 Hz. The system is specifically designed for electrochemical measurements, but the proposed architecture can be employed in many other fields where flexible signal generation and analysis are required. The system employs an unconventional signal generator based on two pulsewidth modulation (PWM) oscillators and an autocalibration system that allows uncertainties of less than 3% to be obtained over a range of 1 kΩ to 100 GΩ. A synchronous demodulation processing allows the noise superimposed to the low-amplitude input signals to be made negligibl
Browsing problematic social media use in autism spectrum disorder: The role of social anxiety
Accessing the Internet is one of the most frequent free-time activities among autistic and non-autistic adolescents. Autistic individuals may experience communicative benefits from using the Internet. However, they may also be at risk of developing Problematic Social Media Use (PSMU). To date, PSMU in autistic adolescents remains underinvestigated, and no research has analyzed the role of emotional correlates. The present study aims to investigate possible differences in terms of PSMU comparing autistic participants to their non-autistic peers, and examine the role of two dimensions of social anxiety (i.e., humiliation/refusal and performance anxiety) as reported by both children and parents in worsening the levels of PSMU. A total of 183 participants (76 on the autism spectrum), aged (8–17 years) participated in the study. Questionnaires on social media use and on social anxiety were administered. Moreover, parents of the participants were asked to complete a questionnaire related to their children's social anxiety. Results showed similar levels of PSMU across the two groups. However, a different pattern of relationships between PSMU and age, and the two dimensions of social anxiety was observed in autistic adolescents as compared to the non-autistic peers, revealing that individual characteristics and specific social anxiety beliefs might be relevant to understanding PSMU in autism. The clinical and preventive implications of these findings are discussed
Actors and Organizations in the League of Nations Era (1920–1946)
This dataset presents cleaned and enriched information based on records originally compiled by the LONSEA project (http://lonsea.org/) on individuals and organizations associated with the League of Nations and its affiliated bodies between 1919 and 1946. It includes over 12,000 individual records and more than 1,000 organizations, covering a wide range of metadata such as names, their gender, their roles in terms of profession, their places of residence, their age when this has been identified, and their years of professional activity in the different organizations we have examined.
The LONSEA database has been processed to improve consistency and completeness. For instance: the gender of people has been inferred using probabilistic models, job titles and historical country names have been standardized
The Choroidal Rupture: Current Concepts and Insights
Choroidal rupture is a posterior segment affliction following a traumatic event that results in a break in retinal pigment epithelium, Bruch membrane, and the underlying choriocapillaris. The visual prognosis might be extremely poor when involving the macular area or in cases with major comorbidities. On funduscopic examination the rupture appears as a whitish/yellowish curvilinear or crescent-shaped lesion with forked or tapered endings. Multimodal imaging including fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, optical coherence tomography, and optical coherence tomography angiography can provide a detailed assessment of the extent of damage and the onset of complications. Although there is no treatment for choroidal rupture per se, associated complications such as angle-recession glaucoma, retinal detachment, or exudative choroidal neovascularization might need therapeutic interventions. We describe the pathophysiology of choroidal rupture, the recent multimodal imaging findings, and the available treatment options for the management of complications
