    Photo-responsive graphene and carbon nanotubes to control and tackle biological systems

    Photo-responsive multifunctional nanomaterials are receiving considerable attention for biological applications because of their unique properties. The functionalization of the surface of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene, among other carbon based nanomaterials, with molecular switches that exhibit reversible transformations between two or more isomers in response to different kind of external stimuli, such as electromagnetic radiation, temperature and pH, has allowed the control of the optical and electrical properties of the nanomaterial. Light-controlled molecular switches, such as azobenzene and spiropyran, have attracted a lot of attention for nanomaterial's functionalization because of the remote modulation of their physicochemical properties using light stimulus. The enhanced properties of the hybrid materials obtained from the coupling of carbon based nanomaterials with light-responsive switches has enabled the fabrication of smart devices for various biological applications, including drug delivery, bioimaging and nanobiosensors. In this review, we highlight the properties of photo-responsive carbon nanomaterials obtained by the conjugation of CNTs and graphene with azobenzenes and spiropyrans molecules to investigate biological systems, devising possible future directions in the field

    Med epidemijo virusa COVID-19 se je pojavila potreba po varnejših in zmogljivejših cepilnih sistemih, ki bi zagotavljali anonimnost uporabnikov. Pri tem problemu so se še posebej izkazale tehnologije veriženja blokov. V magistrski nalogi predstavljamo razvoj lastnega zdravstvenega sistema Cardano Vaccinator za upravljanje s cepilnimi potrdili. Sistem temelji na Cardanu, 3. generaciji tehnologij veriženja blokov, ki dosega odlične rezultate na področju učinkovitosti. Z upoštevanjem standardov W3C in vpeljavo gradnikov samoupravljive identitete, je uporabnikom zagotovljena visoka stopnja varnosti in zasebnosti. Sistem je integriran v naše prilagojeno konzorcijsko omrežje, ki temelji na verigi blokov Cardano. Shranjevanje datotek je realizirano tako s klasično centralizirano podatkovno bazo kot s porazdeljenim datotečnim sistemom IPFS. Cardano Vaccinator se v primerjavi z drugimi cepilnimi sistemi izkaže kot učinkovita alternativa, ki ne zahteva dodatnih stroškov pri opravljanju transakcij. Glede na analizo potencialnih obremenitev cepilnega sistema, dosega Cardano Vaccinator dobre rezultate in omogoča ažurno izdajanje cepilnih potrdil brez zakasnitev. Testi zmogljivosti kažejo, da bi bil sistem dovolj zmogljiv za uporabo v produkcijskem okolju.During the COVID-19 virus outbreak, a sudden need for a secure and anonymous vaccination system emerged. Blockchain technologies proved to be the best in tackling this problem. In this master\u27s thesis, we present the development of our vaccination system Cardano Vaccinator. The system relies on Cardano, the third generation blockchain, which is more efficient than other technologies. The system provides high degrees of security and privacy by complying with the W3C standard and using a self-sovereign identity. Data storage is realized using a centralized database and distributed filesystems, like the IPFS. The system is integrated into our customized consortium network, based on the Cardano blockchain, which provides a good user experience. Cardano Vaccinator is an efficient alternative that does not present many costs. Regarding the analysis of the potential workload, it reaches good results and can issue vaccination certificates without delay. Benchmark tests show that the system is capable enough to be integrated into the production environment

    Tehnologija lanca blokova transformirala je područje digitalnih valuta omogućivši decentralizirane transakcije i riješivši problem dvostruke potrošnje. Transparentna i decentralizirana priroda lanca blokova ima potencijal donijeti značajne promjene u industrijama kao što su upravljanje opskrbnim lancem, decentralizirane financije, zdravstvo, državne službe i prava intelektualnog vlasništva. U području humanitarnoga razminiranja osigurava pouzdanost i sigurnost podataka koji mogu dolaziti iz raznih izvora. Kako bi se olakšala integracija s Cardano čvorom, razvijeno je programsko rješenje koje omogućuje stvaranje nezamjenjivih tokena na Cardano lancu blokova. Takvo rješenje služi kao posrednik između drugih aplikacija i Cardano lanca blokova te pojednostavljuje složene transakcijske procese i kriptografske potpise. Kako bi se osigurala kompatibilnost, sigurnost, skalabilnost i učinkovitost korištenja resursa, aplikacija je zapakirana u Docker kontejner. Utjecaj lanca blokova obuhvaća više sektora, nudeći decentralizirana i transparentna rješenja koja potiču inovacije i poboljšavaju operativnu učinkovitost.Blockchain technology has transformed the field of digital currencies by enabling decentralized transactions and solving the problem of double spending. The transparent and decentralized nature of blockchain has the potential to bring about significant change in industries such as supply chain management, decentralized finance, healthcare, government services and intellectual property rights. In the field of humanitarian demining, it ensures the reliability and security of data that can come from various sources. In order to facilitate the integration with the Cardano node, a software solution was developed that enables the creation of non-fungible tokens on the Cardano blockchain. Such a solution serves as a middleware between other applications and the Cardano blockchain and simplifies complex transaction processes and cryptographic signatures. In order to ensure compatibility, security, scalability and efficient use of resources, the application is packaged in a Docker container. Blockchain's impact spans multiple sectors, offering decentralized and transparent solutions that drive innovation and improve operational efficiency

    V diplomski nalogi opisujemo seznanitev z verigo blokov Cardano ter njenim razvojem in načinom uporabe. V nadaljevanju pokažemo, kako se na alternativen, bolj ekonomičen ter v principu drugačen način razvije ter distribuira nenadomestljive žetone. Rešitev je na voljo komurkoli, ki želi na tej verigi začeti z razvojem tako imenovane digitalne umetnosti in si s tem noče narediti večjih stroškov. Predstavljeni so vsi postopki, ki so potrebni, da lahko z žetoni operiramo, od postavitve okolja, interakcije z decentraliziranim datotečnim sistemom ter distribucije. Pri razvoju smo uporabili najnovejše zaledne ter čelne tehnologije. Za razvoj je bilo uporabljeno testno omrežje Cardana.This thesis describes an introduction to a Cardano blockchain, its benefits, weaknesses, and summarizes developing a solution for minting and distributing NFTs. The thesis shows how we can build and distribute nonfungible tokens more sustainably and economically using a Cardano blockchain. It helps anyone who wants to have a clear start in a world of digital art without any huge costs and impact on the environment. The solution uses a modern approach utilizing the latest backend and frontend technologies together with Cardano testnet

    Spiropyrans for light-controlled drug delivery

    The supramolecular assembly of acetylsalicylic acid to a merocyanine-Zn complex translates into a photo-controllable drug delivery system. Herein, we present the synthesis and spectroscopic analysis of a three-component assembly combining a spiropyran derivative, a zinc(ii) cation, and acetylsalicylic acid. The ON/OFF system can be modulated by safe and easily affordable stimuli, for the specific delivery of more than one active compound. Our results confirm the formation of a ternary system in solution, where the behaviour is dominated by photo-induced responses, and pave the way for the use of such smart platforms for medicinal chemistry purposes
