Fortuna e spettatori dei Baccanali fra Cinque e Seicento. Dalla Via Coperta all'Europa

The role of the synthetic procedure of nano-crystalline TiO2 on the photodegradation of toluene
Because of its stability and nontoxicity TiO2 has been extensively investigated as an efficient photocatalyst for purifying water and air. The use of TiO2 in photocatalytic concrete and paints is very promising and intensively investigated.
In recent years a great deal of activity was dedicated, by the authors’ group, to the study of synthetic routes leading to nanocrystalline materials with tailored features, mainly in the case of titania. Sol-gel paths, combined with hydrothermal stages performed either in the presence or in the absence of surfactants, have led to nanocrystalline TiO2 with controlled enrichment in either anatase, brookite or rutile [1-4]. There is ample debate in the literature concerning the actual role played by either of the titania polymorphs with respect to the photocatalytic activity of the material [5].
In this work the authors report on the activity of nanocrystalline titania, prepared by a multi-step sol-gel procedure, with respect to the photodegradation of toluene used as a model compound. Samples with varying surface area and anatase/brookite/rutile content are fully characterized and then tested and their photoactivity is compared with that of the most commonly commercial TiO2 photocatalysts.
The photodegradation of toluene is investigated both in aqueous and in gas phase. In the former case the composition of the reacting mixture, in terms of side products, is followed by HPLC and MS-GC and the total mineralization by TOC. In the latter case the reactor is equipped with an online micro-GC.

Nullity conditions in paracontact geometry
The paper is a complete study of paracontact metric manifolds for which the Reeb vector field of the underlying contact structure satisfies a nullity condition (the condition (1.2), for some real numbers and k and μ. This class of pseudo-Riemannian manifolds, which includes para-Sasakian manifolds, was recently defined in Cappelletti Montano (2010) [13]. In this paper we show in fact that there is a kind of duality between those manifolds and contact metric (k,μ)-spaces. In particular, we prove that, under some natural assumption, any such paracontact metric manifold admits a compatible contact metric (k,μ)-structure (eventually Sasakian). Moreover, we prove that the nullity condition is invariant under D-homothetic deformations and determines the whole curvature tensor field completely. Finally non-trivial examples in any dimension are presented and the many differences with the contact metric case, due to the non-positive definiteness of the metric, are discussed

First record of Corbicula fluminalis (Müller, 1774) in Lake Garda (Italy), living in sympatry with Corbicula fluminea (Müller, 1774)
The first record of Corbicula fluminalis (Müller, 1774) (Mollusca: Bivalvia: Veneroidea: Corbiculidae) in Lake Garda (Italy) is presented. This clam was observed in July 2008 along the lake shore, with a high number of shells; sampling of lake sediment revealed the presence of live specimens. C. fluminea (Müller, 1774) has already been recorded in Lake Garda since 2002. The need for further studies on the presence and the spread of the two clams and the biodiversity of the invertebrate community of the lake is underlined, in relation to recent records of other invasive species, such as Dikerogammarus villosus (Sowinsky, 1894)
A note on Legendre foliations
In a previous paper the author proved that any flat Legendre foliation on a contact
manifold, under certain natural assumptions, admits an Ehresmann connection. In this note we
extend such result also to the non-flat case
