Reaction Behavior of Phosphorus in CaO-SiO2-FeOx Low Basicity Slag

No full text
For investigating the reaction behavior of phosphorus in CaO–SiO2–FeOx low basicity slag, the CaO–SiO2–FeOx slag containing various amount of CaO particles was heated at 1623K and 1673K, respectively for 10 to 600s, and the products formed at the interface of the CaO particles and molten slag were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). The research results showed that the solid solution containing P2O5 increased with the increasing of the heating temperature, and the formation of condensed phase was promoted by increasing the holding time and the CaO solid proportion.</jats:p

Model to estimate the trapping parameters of cross-linked polyethylene cable peelings of different service years and their relationships with dc breakdown strengths

No full text
In this study, an improved trapping/detrapping model was used to simulate the charge dynamics in cross-linked polyethylene peelings from different-year aged cables. Injection barrier of trapping parameters was estimated by the model fitted to experimental data for each type of sample. Moreover, dc breakdown tests were operated on those samples. It has been found that the dc breakdown strength of inner-layer samples is the lowest in cable sections with thicker insulation layer taken from high-voltage ac (HVAC) 220 kV service condition, whereas for the cable with thinner insulation from HVAC 110 kV, middle-layer samples have worst breakdown performance. This might be explained by the space charge issues under long-term HVAC condition. More importantly, a clear relationship between estimated model parameters, including injection barrier, trap depth and trap density, with the dc breakdown strength in each layer has been reported in this study

Fluorocyclization of Allyl Alcohols and Amines to Access 3-Functionalized Oxetanes and Azetidines

No full text
An efficient method to prepare 3-functionalized oxetanes and azetidines has been realized by fluorocyclization of readily available 2-azidoallyl/2-alkoxyallyl alcohols and amines. Notably, this is the first example applying the fluorocyclization strategy to construct four-membered heterocycles. The pendant electron-donating group (-N3 or -OR) plays a crucial role in polarizing the C= C double bond and facilitating the cyclization process, as verified by DFT and experimental studies

Epilepsy phenotype and response to KCNQ openers in mice harboring the Kcnq2 R207W voltage-sensor mutation

KCNQ2-encoded Kv7.2 subunits play a critical role in balancing neuronal excitability. Mutations in KCNQ2 are responsible for highly-heterogenous epileptic and neurodevelopmental phenotypes ranging from self-limited familial neonatal epilepsy (SeLFNE) to severe developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE). Pathogenic KCNQ2 variants cluster at the voltage sensor domain (VSD), the pore domain, and the C-terminal tail. Although several knock-in mice harboring Kcnq2 pore variants have been developed, no mouse line carrying Kcnq2 voltage-sensor mutations has been described. KCNQ2-R207W is an epilepsy-causing mutation located in the VSD, mainly affecting voltage-dependent channel gating. To study the physiological consequence of Kcnq2 VSD dysfunction, we generated a Kcnq2-R207W mouse line and analyzed the pathological and pharmacological phenotypes of mutant mice. As a result, both homozygous (Kcnq2RW/RW) and heterozygous (Kcnq2RW/+) mice were viable. While Kcnq2RW/RW mice displayed a short lifespan, growth retardation, and spontaneous seizures, Kcnq2RW/+ mice survived and developed normally, although only a fraction (9/64; 14%) of them showed behavioral- and ECoG-confirmed spontaneous seizures. Kcnq2RW/+ mice displayed increased susceptibility to evoked seizures, which was dramatically ameliorated by treatment with the novel KCNQ opener pynegabine (HN37). Our results show that the Kcnq2-R207W mouse line, the first harboring a Kcnq2 voltage-sensor mutation, exhibits a unique epileptic phenotype with both spontaneous seizures and increased susceptibility to evoked seizures. In Kcnq2-R207W mice, the potent KCNQ opener HN37, currently in clinical phase I, shows strong anticonvulsant activity, suggesting it may represent a valuable option for the severe phenotypes of KCNQ2-related epilepsy

Combined effects of nutrients and trace metals on chironomid composition and morphology in a heavily polluted lake in central China since the early 20th century

Eutrophication and trace metal pollution seriously threaten the health of lake ecosystems; however, little is known about the response of zoobenthos to their combined impacts. In order to detect their effects on the biotic community of a lake, subfossil chironomids were analyzed in a sediment core from Sanliqi Lake, a hypereutrophic and severely metal-polluted lake located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in central China. The sediment core provides a record of environmental changes since the 1930s. Increases in pollutant concentrations began before the 1990s, and increases in total P and Pb began from the 1950s. Significant increases in nutrient and metal concentrations in the 1990s document the acceleration of eutrophication and metals pollution. As a consequence, macrophyte-related chironomid taxa (e.g. Cricotopus sylvestris-type and Dicrotendipes sp.) which dominated the subfossil assemblages prior to the 1990s were replaced by pollution-tolerant species (i.e., Tanypus chinensis-type and Procladius choreus-type) thereafter. Chironomid diversity gradually decreased from the 1950s with an abrupt change occurring in 1995. Multivariate statistical analyses reveal that subfossil chironomid assemblages are significantly correlated with total N, Pb and Cd, highlighting the combined impact of nutrients and trace metals on the chironomid communities. In addition, the relative abundance of Procladius choreus-type with mouthpart deformities increased over time and is significantly positively correlated with trace metals and nutrients. Nevertheless, further laboratory studies to assess the linkage between sediment contamination and mouthpart deformities are needed in order to enhance the utility of the latter as an indicator of environmental health. <br/

Social security aided D2D communications: performance bound and implementation mechanism

No full text
In a device-to-device (D2D) communications underlaying cellular network, any user is a potential eavesdropper for the transmissions of others that occupy the same spectrum. Physical-layer security mechanism is typically employed to guarantee secure communications, at the cost of reducing the system’s throughput. As hand-held devices are carried by human beings, we may leverage their social trust to decrease the number of potential eavesdroppers. Aiming to establish a new paradigm for solving the challenging problem of security and efficiency tradeoff, we propose a social security aware D2D communication architecture that exploits social-domain trust for securing physical-domain communication. In order to understand the impact of social trust on the security of transmissions, we analyze the system ergodic rate of social security aided communications via stochastic geometry, and our result based on a real dataset shows that the proposed social security aided D2D communication increases the system secrecy rate by about 63% compared to the scheme without considering social trust relation. Furthermore, in order to provide implementation mechanism, we utilize matching theory to implement efficient resource allocation among multiple users. Numerical results show that our proposed mechanism increases the system secrecy rate by 28% with fast convergence over the social oblivious approach.</p
