Riflessioni sullo sviluppo sostenibile in architettura. A trent'anni dal rapporto Brundtland
Sostenibilità in architettura a trent’anni dal Rapporto Brundtland: un’analisi critica
The research aims to reconsider the concept of sustainable development and consequently of sustainability, because the meaning has been manipulated. Therefore almost thirty years after its formulation, it is a concept that needs to be reviewed. Sustainability issues enjoy great popularity, however a certain lack of critical approaches to this topic has been detected. The goal of this research, albeit ambitious, is to shed light on the relationship between the effects of sustainable development and architecture, considering as objects of the analysis the products of sustainability (eg. energy regulations and environmental assessment tools). They could have a great influence on the manmade environment and currently, designers, regardless the position that can assume with sustainability, must deal with this products, as in the case of regulations. Although sustainable design is often focused on technical aspects or performance, this research aims to integrate them with a cultural and historical analysis, outlining a cultural history of sustainability, and to avoid omitting a number of aspects which if left unchecked in dealing with such a complex subject, could cause shortcomings and over-simplifications. The research is divided into two main parts: a theoretical part and a valuating analysis of the phenomena (products of sustainability). These subdivisions allow us to determine and describe the relationships between the products of sustainability and architectural issues, including epistemological and esthetical elements, allowing us to integrate the practical aspects with the theoretical ones. The complexity of the scenario allows a choice of methodological approaches to the research. Thus the research proceeds first by induction, identifying the subjects and the critical issues related to them, starting from the basic formulation of the subject itself and the direct consequences of it, through to the analysis of the most influential authors and the historical context in which they arise. Then examining the specific elements (products of sustainability) for a more depth; thanks to the results of this analysis, the research proceeds by deduction to the origin, that is the basic formulation of the subject (sustainable development) and its consistency with the objectives set, assessing the results of research in the conclusions
CRUSCOTTI A SERVIZIO DELLA GOVERNANCE Monitoraggio di indicatori di prestazione e indicatori aggregati
The recent increase of smart city policies around the world has meant that digital infrastructures play increasingly central roles for data collection and processing in contemporary city governance. The ‘dashboards’, as tools to communicate the state and development of the city through the display of data, can play an interesting role in supporting the implementation of initiatives by public administrations, as well as in making citizens more aware of them. Updating, transparency and meaning of the data, are critical points in the creation of effective dashboards, referring to shared key performance indicators. The aggregation and weighting of data and the use of data driven storytelling can transform the mere display of raw data into more understandable and easier to read concepts, however, not without some risk
A logo for La Pigna
Centers of resources and innovation for artistic crafts" (with the DAD part of the partnership, leader the Chambre des Métiers et de l'Artisanat Provence Alpes-Maritimes Cote d'Azur) aims to promote artistic craft activities, with the final goal to combine contemporary tools and processes with the creative abilities and the manual skills of artisans of the territories involved - Liguria, Sardegna, Corsica, Région PACA -.This article is focused on one particular activity that is intended to use artistic craft to redevelop the ancient Sanremo neighborhood called La Pigna, currently considered an unsafe neighborhood by its residents. This activity consists in a competition, launched in spring 2018 among the students of the Architecture and Design courses in Genoa, aiming to identify a "logo" for the future activities of the district La Pigna. This logo should recall the neighborhood morphological (from which the name derives) and a significant and recognizable graphic element
Tools for sustainability not for the market: a critical analysis of environmental assessment tools
Environmental assessment comes about as a tool to guide architectural design and to evaluate its sustainability, with the aim of checking the project through the analysis of shared parameters relating to energy and environmental factors. However, environmental certification now seems to have become a marketing tool in the construction industry. The planning choices are influenced not so much by sustainable goals as by the objective of getting the highest score possible according to the assessment system adopted, to give the property a higher market value. There is nothing wrong with that – that is business – but let us not call it sustainability
