Esempio di rappresentazione del sé in Lu Ling 路翎, Luo Dadou de yisheng 罗大斗的一生 (La vita di Luo Dadou)

In the story Luo Dadou’s life (Luo Dadou de yisheng 罗大斗的一生), Lu Ling 路翎 (1923-1994) gives shape to the deepness of human psyche and stresses the suffering of the Self of his age by giving a brilliant emphasis to human individuality. The author succeeds in doing so by creating an amazing psychological characterization of the main character, both by means of words and by means of grammatical structures. By applying Denton’s categories for the study of the Self in modern Chinese literature, I analysed Lu Ling’s short story from the Freudian and Kleinian psychodynamic perspective, so to demonstrate how Lu Ling enters his characters’ minds and wonderfully recreates the psychological dynamics inside and between them

Design of split-inductors applied in positive output super lift luo-converters

    No full text
As the demand of the modern electronic devices and appliances are getting higher, the role of the converters with higher output and efficiency become wider for different industries. It has been the role of engineers to explore the converter topology to provide higher output voltage in simple design with less cost. There are quite a number of different ways of lifting output voltage in converter topology. The method that the author will be introducing is called “Split- Inductors Method”, where the output voltage is totally dependent on the number of inductors used in the converter design. The report will include a detail discussion about design and results of” split-inductors topology”, applied to “Positive Output Super Lift Luo Converter” using software simulations and hardware experiments.Bachelor of Engineerin

The role of three-dimensionality in the development of vortex breakdown in swirling flow

    No full text
Direct numerical simulations of three-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations are conducted using high-order numerical methods in cylindrical coordinates. Aim of the work is to examine the effect of three-dimensionality in the dynamics of vortex breakdown in swirling jets within a specific range of Reynolds numbers. The main elements of vortex breakdown are revealed in our computations, and the interaction between three-dimensional helical instabilities and the axisymmetric process of breakdown is discussed. The results confirm a general tendency of swirling flows to burst into a sequence of bubbles when the Reynolds number is increased. Comparing axisymmetric and fully three-dimensional computations, it's observed the possibility that a single or double helical structure arising in linear regime can work to extract energy from the axisymmetric waves

Jaber: Reflections on a Luo Aesthetic Expression

    No full text
As a common expression, the Luo word jaber seems to be ordinary or even casual, yet it is a capsule of profound ideas within the context of Luo aesthetics. Jaber literally means “a person of beauty”: it is often used to describe females who have exceptional physical qualities that make them outstandingly attractive and deeply pleasurable to look at. The article advances the view that the term jaber offers us a key to understanding the aesthetics of the Luo of Kenya and of Western Nilotic-speakers in general. The author drew from personal experience, informal interviews, unpublished songs and existing literature as a basis for description and analysis of jaber. The picture that emerged suggested that visual beauty is only one layer of the meaning of jaber. Exploration of other layers and meanings in a broad context revealed that the expression points to aesthetic ideals, and can therefore be regarded as artistic. Dholuo speakers use the term to express appreciation of what they see, hear and feel; but it is also an intellectual tool used to offer a critique of concrete and non-concrete objects. The article is a contribution to the discourse on East African aesthetics. Key WordsJaber, beautiful, aesthetic expression, verbal communication, Lu

Design of split-capacitors applied in positive output super-lift luo-converters

    No full text
The voltage-lift technique is a common method used in electronics circuitry design to amplify output voltage. This technique overcomes the effects of parasitic elements effectively and increases the voltage transfer gain of DC/DC converters significantly. However, the output voltage increases in arithmetic progression stage by stage. The Super-Lift technique is more powerful than the VL technique; its voltage transfer gain can be a very large value. The SL technique implements the output voltage increasing in geometric progression stage by stage. This report will introduce a novel approach—SL technique armed by Split Capacitors that implement the output voltage increasing in higher geometric progression. Five newly designed series of Positive/Output SL Luo-Converters that armed with split capacitors will be listed below, including main series, additional series, enhanced series, re-enhanced series and multiple-enhanced series. In this report, both the theoretical analysis and simulation performances will be provided to verify the designed circuits.Bachelor of Engineerin

A study on the detachment characteristics of the tramwave catenary-free electrification system for urban traffic

    No full text
The tramwave catenary-free system (TCS)—a novel type of electrified transit system for urban railways—receives traction energy from a flexible ground-embedded ferromagnetic strip, which is energized only if a corresponding segment is located underneath the vehicle body. The current collector in the TCS is equipped with an “I-shaped” permanent magnet combination that produces a lifting force on the flexible ferromagnetic strips with octopus-shaped copper sheets located on the surface of the strips underneath the ground. The vehicle’s high-voltage circuit conducts when an electrical contact is maintained by the attractive force of the permanent magnet combination mounted inside the magnetic current collector. However, it has recently been observed that due to the dynamic processes during the electrical contact a severe electrochemical corrosion may occur on the surface of the octopus-shaped copper sheets, which can jeopardize the safe operation of the whole electrified transit system of trams. In order to identify the origins of this electrochemical corrosion, the dynamic characteristics of the TCS have been evaluated with particular attention paid to the impact of eddy currents on the attractive force of the permanent magnet combination under variable operational velocities of vehicles. Based on the dynamic characteristics of TCS, the arc erosion process on the surface of the copper sheet has been reproduced using an arc-discharge experimental platform and the causes of electrochemical corrosion in the TCS have been found. The damage development trends—under increasing speeds of trams—evaluated by the dynamic model of the TCS are consistent with the statistical data for practical damage situations

Asymmetry of congruency effects in spatial Stroop tasks can be eliminated

    No full text
Three experiments examined whether asymmetry in interference can be eliminated in spatial Stroop tasks. In Experiment 1, responding to arrows or location words written in Chinese and to their locations created spatial Stroop effects of similar sizes. In Experiment 2, responding to a location word embedded in an outline drawing of arrow did not yield a spatial Stroop effect, but responding to the arrow's direction did yield an effect. In Experiment 3, responding to a location word flanked by an arrow and to the arrow rather than the word produced similar sizes of spatial Stroop effects. These results show that asymmetry in spatial Stroop interference can be eliminated in some situations. Although aspects of the results are consistent with predictions of translation and dimensional overlap models, they are in closest agreement overall with an account in terms of the relative strengths of the relevant and irrelevant stimulus-response associations.
