Data on harvesting efficiency, shoot and fruit damage of eight oil olive varieties (Arbequina, Arbosana, Coratina, Don Carlo, Fs-17, I/77, Koroneiki and Urano), trained in Apulia according to super high density system and mechanically harvested by a grape-harvester are reported. The average harvesting efficiency was 95.5%, damaged lateral shoots and branches were 0.3%. I/77, a very early ripening variety, showed the highest values of damaged shoots (1.6%) and fruits (60%). In general, the grape harvester worked very well on the young super high density olive planting. Both genotype and harvesting time played a leading role on the involved parameters

A new deepening of mass-radius empirical relation for main sequence stars
In the following paper I have compared some typical mass-radius relations for main sequence stars by studying their level of agreement with DEBCat (J. Southworth, ASP Conf. Ser. 496 (2015), https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.1411.121
Soil Management
Soil is the ‘home’ of plant roots, so growers
must make it suitable for the life of hypogeal organs. This is the fundamental of soil
management, especially for olive orchards,
the roots of which live in the same soil,
whether for a few decades or many centuries. Nevertheless, other reasons should be
considered in a sustainable agriculture scenario. First of all, sustainable use of soil starts
from soil conservation. Soil is a non-renewable
natural resource, and as such it must be
protected from erosion, contamination and
other forms of degradation. Moreover, as soil
management infuences strongly all physical, chemical and biological processes, it is
linked with water storage and dry-farming
measures, frost-damage prevention, enhancement of on-farm biodiversity, carbon storage/climate-change mitigation and, not least,
access to improved olive yield and, in general, to food security. Good soil
management practices are needed to improve
olive growth and productivity by providing
adequate nutrients and water to the trees.
The soil has to maintain a good structure,
ensuring adequate root growth and activity
