No full textLo studio del profetismo dantesco e del rapporto tra esso e la "lupa" (cioè la cupidigia-volontà di potenza, è condotto attraverso l'analisi dei momenti più intensamente profetici del poema: dagli aspetti escatologici, politici e sociali dell'antefatto, attraverso le intense reminiscenze da Ezechiele e da Apocalisse ricontestualizzate in Purg. XIX e XX, alle grandiose visioni escatologico-politiche di Purg. XXXII e XXXIII, alla sommessa e dolente speranza espressa negli ultimi canti di Beatrice.Il grido profetico di Dante è inseparabile dalle diverse immagini del poeta all'interno della Commedia: il poeta-pellegrino (l'agens); il poeta-scriba, addetto a riprodurre le esperienze vissute dal pellegrino; l'autore, cioè il poeta-profeta, il quale dice "io" anch'egli e intervienedal presente della scrittura per ammaestrare il lettore ed esecrare i vizi della cristianità sviata. Si esamina quindi la posizione di Dante tra i poeti-auctores antichi e l'auctoritas che spetta ai libri sacri di AT e di NT.The study of Dantean prophetism and of its relationship with the “she-wolf” (that is greed-lust for power), is carried out through the analysis of the most intensely prophetic moments of the poem: from the eschatological, political and social aspects of the background, through the intense reminiscences from Ezekiel and Apocalypse re-contextualized in Purgatory XIX and XX, to the great eschatological-political visions of Purgatory XXXII and XXXIII, to the quiet and sorrowful hope expressed in Beatrice's last cantos. Dante's prophetic cry is inseparable from the different images of the poet inside the Comedy : the pilgrim poet (the agens); the scribe poet, assigned to reproduce the experiences lived by the pilgrim; the author, that is the prophet poet, who also says “I” and intervenes from the present of the writing to teach the reader and execrate the vices of led astray Christianity. Then Dante's position is examined between the ancient auctores- poets and the auctoritas due to the holy books of the Old and New Testament

No full textThe pore-forming activity of Cry1Ab, Cry1Fa and Cry1Ca toxins and their interaction with leucine transport mediated by the K(+)/leucine cotransporter were studied in brush border membrane vesicles (BBMVs) isolated from the midgut of Ostrinia nubilalis and Sesamia nonagrioides. In both species, as in other Lepidoptera, leucine uptake by BBMVs can take place in the absence of cations, but it can also be driven by a K(+) gradient. Experiments with the voltage-sensitive fluorescent dye 3,3'-diethylthiacarbocyanine iodide proved that Cry1Ab, a Bacillus thuringiensis toxin active in vivo, enhanced the membrane permeability to potassium in O. nubilalis BBMVs. This result is in agreement with similar effects observed in S. nonagrioides BBMV incubated with various Cry1 toxins active in vivo. The effect of the above toxins was tested on the initial rate of 0.1 mM: leucine influx. Instead of an increase in leucine influx, a reduction was observed with the Cry1 toxins active in vivo. Cry1Ab and Cry1Fa, but not the inactive toxin Cry1Da, inhibited in a dose-dependent manner leucine uptake both in the absence and in the presence of a K(+) gradient, a clear indication that their effect is independent of the channel formed by the toxins and that this effect is exerted directly on the amino acid transport system

No full textThe aim of this study is to investigate the reception of Ambrose in the writings of three Ukrainian baroque preachers, viz. Ioannikij Galjatovs’kyj, Antonij Radyvylovs’kyj and Dimitrij Rostovskij. The method that has been adopted in the presentation of the results of our survey can be outlined as follows. First, we focused on the thematic aspects of the process of reception, which generally fall into two categories: 1. Exegetical themes, based on motives drawn from the Scriptures; 2. Philosophical-doctrinal themes. Furthermore, for all the writers which we examined we tried to determine whether an author made a direct or indirect usage of Ambrose’s oeuvre. Indirect use is generally to be ascribed to the influence of either exegetic Comments on the Bible, such as those of Cornelius A Lapide and Didacus de Baeza, or of emblematic literature produced in the West, such as Hemannus Hugo’s Pia desideria (1624).
A second question to be addressed is how the intellectual and ecclesiastical context of the Ukrainian lands, whose distinctive features were pluriconfessionalism and the close ties to Western Renaissance and Baroque, influenced our authors in the way they made use of Ambrose, especially as far as the relationship between Orthodoxy and Catholicism is concerned
Oxidation of Aluminium-Magnesium alloys at elevated temperature in the solid, semi-liquid and liquid states
No full textThis thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.Sensitive thermogravimetric equipment was used to monitor the oxidation rates of A1-1 to 9% Mg alloys in 0.21 oxygen/0.79 helium mixtures with and without 0.03 atm water vapour pressure, in the temperature range 500-725°C which include their respective solid, semi-liquid and liquid states. These measurements were supported by structural and topographical studies of oxide films using SEM, X-ray diffraction, and TEM with electron diffraction and EDX techniques. The objective was to provide information in the context of dross formation during melting operations. The only oxidation product observed was MgO. The oxidation rates do not follow simple rate laws. The rate normally increases as the temperature is raised except for a curious inverse relationship for liquid alloys just above the liquidus temperatures due to the formation of undulating surfaces. An amorphous MgO film formed on liquid alloys restricted the initial oxidation but, following an incubation period, crystallisation of the film induced breakaway oxidation. The crystallisation was promoted by high magnesium contents, high temperatures and moist atmospheres. The oxidation rates for alloys in the semi-liquid state were as follows: (i) for 50% liquid, the rates were initially faster than those for wholly liquid alloys due to the presence of solid phase particles which acted both as disruptive stress-raisers and as sources of nuclei for crystallisation of the amorphous oxide film over the liquid phase. For the moist atmosphere: (i) wholly solid alloys and semi-liquid alloys with 50% liquid oxidised faster than in the dry atmosphere because of the injection of OH- ions into the oxide with consequent disruptive effects caused by hydrogen absorption by the alloy. The addition of 0.003% Be to Al-8% Mg alloy decreased the oxidation rate markedly by toughening the MgO films preventing cracking and hence the nucleation of tertiary MgO. Small additions of Mn or Zr offset the effect of Be and probably enhanced the Mg 2+ ion conductivity in the oxide by the 4+ injection of Mn 2+ , Mn 4+ or Zr ions. For alloys with Be, although breakaway eventually occurred it was not initiated by crystallisation of the amorphous film and moisture in the atmosphere increased the oxidation throughout the temperature range, 500-725°C.Financial support was provided by the

Quindi argomenta le ragioni per cui Dante, nella Commedia, si proclama poeta ma non si definisce mai autore (tale in particolare è Virgilio).The contribution considers the development of the possibility of existence of vulgar poets and authors (beside and in competition with the classics, mostly Latin) in Dante's works prior to the Comedy.
Then it argues the reasons why Dante, in the Comedy, declares himself a poet but he never calls himself an author (such is particularly Virgil)
Impact of homicide on male life expectancy in Mexico [Impacto de la violencia homicida en la esperanza de vida masculina de México]

To determine the impact of homicide on male life expectancy in Mexico and its 32 states during the three-year periods 1998-2000 and 2008-2010 and the weight of the different age groups in years of life expectancy lost (YLEL) due to this cause. Methods. Based on official death and population data, abridged tables for male mortality in Mexico as a whole and its states were created for the three-year periods studied. Health-adjusted life expectancy and YLEL for men aged 15 to 75 were calculated by selected causes (homicide, diabetes mellitus, and traffic accidents) and age groups in each three-year period. Results. In the years between the 1998-2000 and 2008-2010 periods, YLEL due to homicide increased both nationally and in 19 states. In four states, the YLEL in 2008-2010 exceeded two, with the state of Chihuahua standing out at 5.2 years. In 14 of the 18 states where health-adjusted life expectancy among men declined between the two three-year periods, the YLEL due to homicide increased. From 2008 to 2010, homicides were the leading cause of YLEL among men aged 20-44. YLEL due to homicide among those aged 15-44 increased between the two three-year periods. Conclusions. The increase in the rate of homicidal violence, especially among young people, is impeding an increase in male life expectancy in Mexico. In several states, such as Chihuahua and Durango, this violence appears to be the main reason for the decline in life expectancy among men aged 15 to 75

No full textNederlandse volkshuisvesting draagt van oudsher bij aan een ’waardevolle‘ samenleving. Volkshuisvesting had oorspronkelijk als doel te voorzien in een gezonde woonsituatie voor iedereen en bij te dragen aan een maatschappij waarin kwetsbare groepen middenin de samenleving leven. Dit streven kon lange tijd op breed politiek draagvlak rekenen. Met de introductie van marktwerking in de woonsector kwamen woningcorporaties en hun bijzondere positie tussen markt en overheid onder een vergrootglas te liggen. Het op economische efficiëntie gerichte denken kon niet uit de voetenmet deze vreemde organisaties die niet gericht zijn op winst maar op waarden. In plaats van de waarden expliciet te maken, werd geprobeerd onderscheid te maken tussen de op winst gerichte activiteiten van woningcorporaties en de activiteiten die het algemeen belang dienden. No full textBook review: Housing wealth and welfare, By Caroline Dewilde and Richard Ronald, Cheltenham, Edward Elgar Publishing, 2017, ISBN 978 78536 095 4.This is a very interesting edited volume comprising an introduction chapter reflecting on so-called housing asset-based welfare and nine chapters written by a nice selection of authors. It is a more than worthwhile joint effort of two excellent ERC laurates who have both been working on the topic for years which is demonstrated in the very comprehensive overview of the state of the art in housing wealth and welfare. They explain different models across time and across Europe: some models are more familialised, relying on family capital, while others are more financialised, relying on mortgages. The introduction is followed by a multi-angle, multi-country collection of well-written chapters.
