Surgical anatomy of the biliary tract

    No full text
An accurate knowledge of intra-hepatic bile duct ramifications and their variations, as well as the variations in the confluence of the hepatic ducts and their branches, is of crucial importance for hepato-biliary surgeons. Lack of knowledge in this area can lead to serious injury in both conventional hepatectomies and hepatectomies for living donor liver transplantation. Here we review the normal anatomy of the biliary tract as well as the most common anomalies that can be encountered during hepato-biliary surgical procedures
