Life Satisfaction and Subjective Well-being in a Sustainability Perspective

    No full text
Sustainability is the mainstream issue of this century, while sustainable human development leans mainly on quality of life and subjective well-being for the whole of humankind. The present study starts to introduce in synthesis the concept of sustainability; it proceeds to describe fundamental tools and methodologies, adopted in international contexts, to measure subjective well-being; it then dedicates an operative paragraph to examine data from a statistical survey. The analysis explores available contents and investigates the presence of hidden, useful information not yet exploited. The underlying idea is that subjective well-being is strictly connected to social relations and, in particular, social identity

Labour Status and Subjective Well-being. A Micro-level Analysis and a Multidimensional Approach to Well-being

Abstract: The principles of Decent work presently inspire the struggle against poverty, and the promotion of an equitable, inclusive and sustainable development (UN-SDGs, 2015). They lie on three main levels: universal rights, job quality, and subjective well-being in relation to work. Macro and micro social conditions influence the relationships between work and subjective well-being. This paper focuses on the relationships between labour status and subjective well-being, analysing data from the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions 2013, with respect to the Italian dataset. It assumes the multidimensionality of well-being as a premise, and explores the distribution of cases according to three main dimensions of subjective well-bein

Sustainability and Well-being. The Key of Decent Work as Cornerstone of Human Development. Sustainability is the mainstream issue of this century, while sustainable human development leans mainly on quality of life and subjective well-being for the entire mankind. This study introduces in synthesis the concept of sustainability It proceeds describing fundamental tools and methodologies, adopted in international contexts, to measure subjective well-being. The underlying idea is that subjective well-being is strictly connected to social relations and to social identity in particular. One of the domains in which the concept of identity and the goal of social sustainability are strongly related is decent work. Decent work is a multidimensional concept. This study describes some different sets of indicators and some data concerning work conditions in the world. Two operative chapters are devoted to subjective well-being indicators in official statistical surveys. The first describes the methodological approaches. The second presents the statistical analyses and some results. In particular there is an application of a synthesis methodology to ordinal variables based on discrete mathematics. The analyses explore available contents in the official statistics and investigate the presence of hidden information not yet exploited. The last chapter reaffirms the concept of identity and its link with the meaning of work and subjective and social well-being. It briefly introduces an experience of training and motivational intervention in a social cooperative

This volume provides an overview of the ways the Italian school of quality of life studies addresses well-being and quality of life, from both a substantive and a methodological point of view. It discusses various topics such as those of equitable and sustainable wellbeing, lifestyles, the organization of economy and welfare, as well as aspects related to the measurement of quality of life in small towns, institutional transparency and corruption prevention indicators. Chapters presented in this volume are drawn from papers presented at the conferences of the Italian Association for Quality of Life Studies (AIQUAV) held in Florence, Italy, in 2015 and 2016. The volume is organised into three parts. The first part is devoted to methods and indicators for research on quality of life, the second part to social sustainability, lifestyles, cultural aspects and local applications, and the third to economy, welfare and quality of life. The volume hosts contributions that are interdisciplinary in scope and mirror the complexity of the globalized world

Sviluppo e benessere sostenibili.

Maria Bachelet, Giorgia Bressan, Paola Conigliaro, Dalila De Rosa, Daniele Vazque
