Get PDFIl contributo analizza il personaggio di Cicerone nella settima Suasoria, evidenziando come intorno ad esso si costruisca una riflessione articolata sul valore della memoria e dell’oblio al tempo della guerra civile. La vita e la morte dell’Arpinate divengono in maniera paradigmatica l’occasione per pensare all’atteggiamento migliore da assumere nel fosco scenario delle guerre civili, suggerendo ad un Cicerone esitante di non consegnare all’eternità la parte migliore di sé, i propri scritti, per assicurare non solo la ‘sopravvivenza’ sua, ma anche quella del triste quadro della città in preda alle guerre civili. Un ricordo che solo gli eloquentiae monumenta ciceroniani sono in grado di assicurare.Cet article analyse le personnage de Cicéron dans la Suasoire 7 de Sénèque le Père, et la manière dont il devient le support d’une réflexion capitale sur la valeur de la mémoire et de l’oubli à la suite de la guerre civile. La vie et la mort de l’Arpinate fournissent un paradigme permettant de réfléchir à la meilleure attitude à adopter dans le sombre scénario des guerres civiles, à travers des déclamations suggérant à un Cicéron hésitant de ne pas livrer à l’éternité « la meilleure partie de lui-même », ses écrits, pour assurer non seulement sa propre « survie », mais aussi celle du triste tableau de la ville en proie aux guerres civiles. Les monumenta eloquentiae de Cicéron sont seuls capables d’assurer la survie de cette mémoire

No full textSulla dicotomia identità e alterità la critica moderna si è molto esercitata negli ultimi decenni, mettendo a punto un armamentario di strumenti e categorie analitiche utili a identificarne i rispettivi spazi di applicazione: da un lato, troviamo dunque l’identità, con tutto il suo repertorio di parole-chiave, quali tradizione, memoria, scrittura, purezza, coerenza; dall’altro, l’alterità, in tutti i suoi gradi, che vanno da una potenziale assimilabilità a un’estraneità radicale, espressa, volta per volta, dalla climax di termini quali ospite, straniero, rifugiato politico, esiliato, nemico, invasore.
Il volume che qui presentiamo si propone di indagare, attraverso una galleria di casi studio specificamente dedicati, le diverse forme di contatto-confronto con l’altro, in un arco temporale che va dall’Antichità classica al Medioevo, nel tentativo di mostrare il carattere strumentale di quelle barriere e confini spesso immaginari, ma anche di esplorare quei percorsi di conoscenza e rappresentazione dell’altro che emergono
da occasioni quali il viaggio, le forme di appropriazione e coabitazione.
Gli undici saggi qui raccolti costituiscono pertanto altrettante variazioni sul tema
della distanza, dell’interazione e dell’esplorazione dell’alterità, anche quando essa è
interiorizzata, addomesticata o messa in valore. Il titolo della raccolta è ovviamente
un omaggio alla celeberrima canzone Imagine di John Lennon, ai cui versi abbiamo
voluto ispirarci, adattandoli al nostro progetto.Modern criticism has exercised a lot on the dichotomy of identity and otherness in recent decades, developing a set of analytical tools and categories useful for identifying their respective areas of application: on the one hand, we therefore find identity, with all its repertoire of key words, such as tradition, memory, writing, purity, coherence; on the other hand, otherness, in all its degrees, ranging from potential assimilation to radical extraneousness, expressed, each time, by the climax of terms such as guest, foreigner, political refugee, exile, enemy, invader.
The volume that we present here aims to investigate, through a gallery of specifically dedicated case studies, the different forms of contact-confrontation with the other, in a period of time that goes from classical Antiquity to the Middle Ages, in an attempt to show the character instrumental of those often imaginary barriers and boundaries, but also to explore those paths of knowledge and representation of the other that emerge
from occasions such as travel, forms of appropriation and cohabitation.
The eleven essays collected here therefore constitute as many variations on the theme
of distance, interaction and exploration of otherness, even when it is
internalized, tamed or enhanced. The title of the collection is obviously
a tribute to the famous song Imagine by John Lennon, whose verses we have
wanted to inspire us, adapting them to our project
