MAP-1B/TAU functional redundancy during laminin-enhanced axonal growth
No full textWhen cultured cerebellar macroneurons develop attached to a laminin-containing substrate or after the acute addition of laminin to the tissue culture medium, there is an acceleration in the rate and extent of axonal elongation. Furthermore, laminin is capable of inducing axonal formation and microtubule stabilization in neurons arrested at stage II of neuritic development by tau suppression (Caceres and Kosik, 1990; Caceres et al., 1991). Laminin-enhanced or induced axonal extension is paralleled by a selective and dramatic incorporation of phosphorylated MAP-1b into axonal microtubules. Axonal formation in neurons growing in the presence of laminin is prevented by treatment of the cultures with a mixture of MAP-1b and tau antisense oligonucleotides, but not by the single suppression of any one of these MAPs. However, suppression of MAP-1b, but not of tau, greatly reduces the increase in the rate and extent of axonal elongation induced by laminin. No such effects are elicited by MAP-1b antisense oligonucleotides in neurons growing in the absence of laminin, e.g. polylysine alone, where most of the MAP-1b present in the cells is dephosphorylated and not associated with the cytoskeleton. Taken collectively, these data suggest that, with regard to axonal elongation, MAP-1b and tau can be functionally substituted, and that extracellular matrix molecules, such as laminin, affect axonal extension by promoting the in vivo utilization of MAP-1b

No full textLa complejidad de las problemáticas que demandan atención del Estado conforma un claro desafío al repertorio de acciones destinadas a darles respuesta. Entre las problemáticas que acaparan la atención estatal se encuentran la planificación, regulación, control, fiscalización y prestación de los servicios públicos de infraestructura de agua y saneamiento. Se trata de servicios básicos para garantizar la salud de la población, las condiciones de vida dignas, la protección del ambiente, la integración del territorio y el desarrollo. La provincia de Buenos Aires (pba) se ubica en el centro-este del territorio argentino, su población representaba en 2010 el 38,95% del país, que se concentraba en un 63,46% en los partidos del conurbano bonaerense integrado por veinticuatro partidos que rodean a la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires (caba). Se trata de la principal jurisdicción del país en términos económicos y políticos en donde los servicios de agua y saneamiento, de vital importancia, son prestados por un conjunto heterogéneo de empresas con distintas formas jurídicas que abastecían de agua solo al 75,09% de los hogares y de cloacas al 47,57%...Fil: Caceres, Veronica Lucia. Learning Flamenco in Caceres
No full text13 p.Dance may be one of the oldest art forms in the world, and it is a type of expression that I believe can provide valuable insight into the culture that created it. Therefor I choose to investigate the art of flamenco dancing for my Integrative Cultural Research Project (JCRP) in Caceres, Spain.
To study flamenco, I enrolled in a "basic flamenco" class at the Sbelta school of dance here in Caceres. The project coordinator helped me locate the school and put me in contact with the directer. The class I elected was held every Monday and Wednesday from 8:00 to 9:00 PM. and I would also go on occasional Fridays to learn the parts of the dances that the other students already knew. I would participate in the class and, afterwards, write notes describing what we had learned, how the class was conducted, and my personal reactions and experience

Wave disturbance behind low crested structures:diffraction and overtopping
No full textIn recent years the hydraulic performance of low-crested structures has been widely studied both theoretically and through experimental analyses, but only a few studies have been focused on the combined diffraction-overtopping effects on wave transmission and induced wave currents.In this paper hydraulic model tests conducted at the 3D wave basin of Delft University of Technology (Caceres et al., 2008) were used to obtain and discuss two simple methods for predicting the wave height at the lee of a single detached breakwater of finite length and the related current regime. For the first time diffraction effects are expressly accounted for. The agreement with experimental data is encouraging. The main objective of the paper is to aid engineers in the first stage of the design process, when using a mathematical model could be unnecessarily excessive. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V.
