Care workers in Argentina: At the crossroads of labour market institutions and care services
In Argentina, one-third of all employed women, but only 3 per cent of all employed men, are care workers. Their relative pay and working conditions depend not only on applicable labour market regulations (and enforcement) but also, crucially, on the organization of care service provision, including the degree of public-sector engagement in the provision of particular services, the different care providers, and the locus of care provision (institutional vs other contexts, e.g. households). Comparing two childcare-related occupations (early-education teaching and domestic service), the author argues that those two – possibly mutually reinforcing – dimensions intersect to explain differences between care workers’ labour market positions.Fil: Esquivel, Valeria Renata. Managerial Abilities of Women Headed Households
This study attempts to understand the profile of women headed households and the relationship between personal variables and managerial abilities of Jann women. A sample of 270 women headed households were drawn for the study covering Telangana, Rayalseema and Coastal region of Andhra Pradesh. The study reveals that education, self-confidence and participation of women in SHGs and extension activities have significant positive relation with managerial efficiency. The study recommends that women headed households should be given priority in extension activities ·of ongoing schemes for providing them opportunities to sharpen their managerial skills. Special management modules could be developed for training these women which will enhance their self-confidence and managerial abilities and help them become more productive. Extension programmes with a combination of rational and creative approach to problem solving and decision making will have potential for providing a conceptual framework, upon which the programmes can be based for developing the managerial efficiency of these women headed households, say the author

SYNERGISTIC EFFECT OF HALIDE IONS ON THE CORROSION INHIBITION OF MILD STEEL IN SULPHURIC ACID USING METHYL, N-METHYL ETHYL AND ETHYL SUBSTITUTED γ-2,c-6-DIPHENYL PIPERIDIN-4-ONE SEMICARBAZONES
The synergistic effect of halide ions such as KCl, KBr and KI on the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 N sulphuric acid by [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl-t-3-methyl piperdin-4-ones with semicarbazone (01[Formula: see text]SC), [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl-N-methyl-t-3-ethyl piperdin-4-ones with semicarbazone (02[Formula: see text]SC) and 2,6-diphenyl-t-3-ethyl piperdin-4-one with semicarbazone (03[Formula: see text]SC) has been examined by weight loss method, potentiodynamic polarization measurements and electrochemical AC impedance spectroscopy. Results show that substituted [Formula: see text]-2,c-6-diphenyl piperidin-4-ones with semicarbazone act as the perfect corrosion inhibitors and their inhibition efficiency increases with the addition of halide ions. The inhibitor (01[Formula: see text]SC) shows the inhibition efficiency of 78.28% (0.2[Formula: see text]mM) by using a weight loss method. The influence of I[Formula: see text], Br[Formula: see text] and Cl[Formula: see text] anions raises the inhibition efficiency of the substituted 2,6-diphenyl piperidin-4-ones with semicarbazone due to the synergistic effect. Six-month trial of Yoga Nidra in menstrual disorder patients: Effects on somatoform symptoms
Background: Yoga Nidra is a successful therapy for both recent and long-standing psychological disturbances of all kinds especially depression and high anxiety level and neurotic patterns. Objective: The purpose of the present work, therefore, was to conduct a preliminary randomized study of Yoga Nidra as a treatment in the patients of menstrual disorders with somatoform symptoms. Materials and Methods: Patients were recruited from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, CSM Medical University (erstwhile KGMU) Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. One hundred and fifty female patients with menstrual disorders were randomly divided in to two groups 1- Intervention group: 75 subjects (Yoga Nidra intervention and medication) 2- control group: 75 subjects (without Yoga Nidra intervention only medication). Schedule for clinical assessment in neuropsychiatry tool was used. Results: There was significant improvement in pain symptoms (P<0.006), gastrointestinal symptoms (P<0.04), cardiovascular symptoms (P<0.02) and urogenital symptoms (P<0.005) after 6 months of Yoga Nidra therapy in Intervention group in comparison to control group. Conclusion: Yoga Nidra appears to be a promising intervention for psychosomatic problems. It is cost-effective and easy to implement. The results indicate that somatoform symptoms in patients with menstrual disorder can be decreased by learning and applying a program based on Yogic intervention (Yoga Nidra)
Yoga Nidra as a complementary treatment of anxiety and depressive symptoms in patients with menstrual disorder
Background: Emotional insecurity, stress, depressive or/and anxiety symptoms are common with variable severity among patients with menstrual disorder. Yogic relaxation therapy (Yoga Nidra) leads to conscious and subconscious recognition of these underlying psychological factors and helps releasing of suppressed conflicts.
Objective: To evaluate the effect of Yoga Nidra on anxiety and depressive symptoms in patients with menstrual disorders.
Materials and Methods: Subjects were recruited from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, C.S.M. Medical University (erstwhile KGMU), Lucknow Uttar Pradesh, India. The subjects were randomly divided in to two groups: Intervention group (with yogic intervention) and control group (without yogic intervention). Assessments of all subjects were carried out by administering Hamilton anxiety scale (HAM-A) and Hamilton rating scale for depression (HAM-D) at baseline and after six months.
Results: The mean age with S.D of the intervention group was 27.67 ± 7.85 years, and for control group was 26.58 ± 6.87 years (among completed intervention group nn = 65 and control group nn = 61). There was significant reduction of scores in HAM-A (P<0.003) and HAM-D (P<0.02) respectively in subjects with mild to moderate anxiety and depressive symptoms after six months of yoga therapy (Yoga Nidra) in intervention group in comparison to control group.
Conclusion: The patients with mild to moderate anxiety and depressive symptoms improve significantly with ′Yoga Nidra′ intervention. There is no significant improvement in the patients with severe anxiety and depressive symptoms
Leaf-based induction of protocorm-like bodies, their encapsulation, storage and post-storage germination with genetic fidelity in Mokara Sayan×Ascocenda Wangsa gold
An innovative and accelerated in vitro mass propagation protocol via direct induction of protocorm-like bodies (PLBs) from leaf sections of orchid hybrid Mokara Sayan × Ascocenda Wangsa gold was developed for the first time. Initially, leaf sections were transferred into Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with two cytokinin sources namely, thidiazuron (TDZ) and zeatin with variable concentrations. The earliest (∼8 days) induction of PLBs with maximum number (34 PLBs cm–2 leaf section) and induction frequency (82.8 %) were recorded in MS medium fortified with 3 mg L–1 TDZ. The same medium formulation resulted in the highest growth rate (∼93.7 mg day–1) with maximum diameter of PLBs (3.4 mm) when compared with other treatments. Observations on proliferating PLBs under variable pressure scanning electron microscopy illustrated their distinctive growth phases wherein proliferating PLBs exhibited globular shape, typical epidermal texture with a rough surface that steadily became more wrinkled, consisting of basal absorbing hair-bodies and the apical zone forming shoot primordia. Stereo microscopic observations revealed gradual maturation of PLBs, initiation of leaf and shoot primordia. PLBs were encapsulated with calcium-alginate for short-term storage and germplasm exchange. Lower concentrations of sodium alginate (1 and 2 %) produced synthetic seeds that were soft to grip and extremely irregular in shape, whereas higher concentration (4 %) resulted in stiffness of synthetic seeds and reduced germination frequency. The most suitable gel matrix to form uniform spherical beads was optimized at 3 % sodium alginate and 75 mM calcium chloride. Synthetic seeds were effectively stored at 25 °C for up to 180 days. The germination efficiency of synthetic seeds gradually declined after storage at both 4 °C and 25 °C, with synthetic seeds stored at 25 °C being more tolerant than those stored at 4 °C. Even after 180 days of storage, the synthetic seeds that were stored at 25 °C exhibited 71.2 % germination frequency and ∼14 days to germination. Synthetic seeds stored at 4 °C deteriorated rapidly and degenerated completely within 180 days. Random amplified polymorphic DNA marker-based analysis carried out with randomly selected synthetic seed-derived plantlets showed 100 % monomorphism with a total 512 bands of molecular size ranging between 130—2100 bp, ensuring post-storage genetic fidelity
Seed Quality of Lablab Beans (Lablab purpureus L.) as Influenced by Drying Methods and Storage Temperature
Drying and storage are the common postharvest issues in seed production. Normally, seeds are harvested at physiological maturity when the moisture is higher than desired for safe storage. This study aims to evaluate the use of common drying methods and suggest a suitable storage temperature for the lablab bean seed. Pods at 30 days after anthesis are harvested and the seeds subjected to drying using sun, shade, oven, and drying beads to obtain target moisture contents of 14%, 12%, and 10%. Dried seeds are then stored at two storage temperatures; ambient (27.7–34.2 °C; 74 ± 5% relative humidity) and refrigerated (2.0–5.0 °C; 25 ± 5% relative humidity) for six months. Both shade and drying beads provided good results. However, drying beads gave the highest germination percentage (≥70%) and the shortest drying duration to achieve safe moisture content of 10%, along with the economic benefit from the repeated usage. The beads can be reused indefinitely by recharging in an oven between uses, thus, indicating the potential adoption by farmers. Two commonly used methods (sun and oven) have been proven to be unsuitable as they increase dead seeds due to heating damage. It is further explained that during six months of storage in the ambient temperature, declines were recorded in antioxidant enzyme activities, germination performance, and seedling growth. Therefore, lablab bean seeds are best stored refrigerated (≤5 °C) in which the germination and defense mechanism are maintained, and it is highly recommended to the farmers and seed producers as it is easily accessible, cost-saving, and sustainable
Impact of Yoga Nidra on psychological general wellbeing in patients with menstrual irregularities: A randomized controlled trial
Background: Yogic relaxation therapy (Yoga Nidra) has been effectively prescribed in conjunction with other medical and yogic procedures in the management of severe psychosomatic diseases, including cancer, bronchial asthma, colitis, peptic ulcer and menstrual irregularities.
Aim of the study: To assess the impact of Yoga Nidra on psychological problems in patients with menstrual disorders.
Materials and Methods: Patients were recruited from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, C.S.M. Medical University (erstwhile KGMU), Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. A total of 150 female subjects were randomly divided into two groups: 1) group of 75 subjects (with yogic intervention) and 2) a control group of 75 subjects (without yogic intervention). Assessment of psychological general wellbeing (tool) was used for all the subjects Assessment of psychological general well being (tool) was used for all the subjects (Cases and controls). This assessment was done twice first time in the beginning (baseline) and then after six months.
Results : Anxiety decreased significantly (P<0.003) and depression decreased significantly (P<0.01) in the Yoga group. Positive wellbeing and general health improved significantly (P<0.02), and vitality improved significantly (P<0.01) after six months of Yoga therapy (Yoga Nidra) in the Yoga group compared with the control group.
Conclusion : The current findings suggest that patients with menstrual irregularities having psychological problems improved significantly in the areas of their wellbeing, anxiety and depression by learning and applying a program based on Yogic intervention (Yoga Nidra)
