Tiberio tra filologia e filosofia
Tiberius' grammatical activity on Homer (see especially Suet. Tib. 56 and 70) is here examined in the context of contemporary Roman culture and especially that of the emperor's own circle, dedicated to the allegorical and philosophical interpretation of the Homeric texts. An example of such activities is given by Seneca in his Letter 88, where he offers insights on both the nature and purpose of the liberal arts, with grammatical exegesis at front line, and the very education he had received in those arts as a young student during Tiberius'reign, thus casting light on the culture of that period
The Dynamics of Seneca's reception in the Late Ancient Christian Tradition: some methodological remarks
In this essay, I aim to debate a methodological issue regarding that pervasive sense of ‘familiarity’, deeply affecting Senecan reception among Christian authors as a whole, so as to consider many dynamics of this latter as a form of embodied or personified relationship.
The fullest evidence of this in Late Antiquity is the pseudo-correspondence of St Paul and Seneca, hinging as it does upon mutual familiarity. Hence, my purpose is to give this work the role of a paradigm, very useful to correctly redefine that personified, symbolic relationship and therefore effectively outline the history of the critical issue pertaining to Seneca’s reception among the Fathers.
Furthermore, in order to sketch the main routes of Seneca’s permanence in Late Ancient Christian Tradition, the most famous judgment of Quintilian on him (inst. or. X 1, 125-131), well known in schools, will be here also taken into consideration

Some borderline reflections, arising from the Giornata di Studi 'Tra testo e immagini. Riflessioni ovidiane' are proposed about the opportunity to export the MArS project to the field of literary studies on Ovid's Metamorphoses. In particular, the iconographic and 'ekprhastic' reading of Ovidian poem, tha MArS has been carrying out, could be useful to discover new perspectives in studies about ovidian narrative as well as strenghten the link, that is at core of the most recent research on ancient ekphrasis, between narrate and describe

In Letter 97, aiming to prove that the corruption of mores is
not a matter of a corrupted age but the fault of corrupted men, Sene-
ca mentions the scandal of the Bona Dea rites and the ensuing trial in
which P. Clodius bribed the jurors. These crimes, he argues, were com-
mitted in one and the same age, indeed in the very age and presence
of Cato the Younger, the Stoic champion of virtus. By directly quoting
a passage from Cicero’s letters to Atticus (Att. 1.16.5) Seneca appears to
show a concern with documentary truth. But there is more to it than
this. For, beyond the evidence of the direct quotation, Cicero’s letter is
also widely echoed in an allusive way in Seneca’s, suggesting a larger
metaliterary exploration of the limits of epistolarity and its relationship
to other genres such as oratory and mime. In addition to the primary
argument that Seneca’s focus on, the Bona Dea Scandal involves a com-
plex relationship to the Ciceronian model and the historical episode,
this study also further attends to the second part of Letter 97, and ex-
amines Seneca’s deeper reflection on the core concept of conscientia in
relation to Epicurus and other passages in Seneca
Among Seneca’s literary output, besides three Consolationes (Ad Marciam, Ad Polybium, Ad Helviam matrem) belonging to the Dialogues, some shorter consolatory writings can be found into the Letters to Lucilius. This paper aims to examine three of these consolatory letters (Letters 63, 93 and 99) as a whole, in order to highlight their unique role in the thriving genre of Ancient Consolation: this latter, however, is still to be precisely defined in its salient features, despite of all its well known commonplaces
