Gaetano Salvemini: A Lesson in Thought and Action

    No full text
Gaetano Salvemini was one of the earliest political exiles during Fascism. Before his exile Salvemini had the reputation of being a well-respected historian and political activist. He taught history at the University of Florence, among other universities. Salvemini was known for his intelligence, detailed research and analysis, and his unflinching ideals. After his exile Salvemini spent some time in England and France. During this time he traveled to the United States for a lecture tour and later settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts to teach at Harvard University. Salvemini\u27s main objective in his writing and lectures was to debunk the myths of the Fascist propaganda machine. This thesis uses a variety of sources including Salvemini\u27s own writings, newspaper articles, reviews, and archival material. The archival material includes articles, letters and Italian government documents. This thesis shows that Salvemini had an impact on post-World War II Italy. Salvemini spent his life fighting for democracy and provided hope for many Italians who wondered what would happen in Italy after Fascism. Salvemini\u27s ideas had an impact on the Italian Republic set up on 2 June 1946 and the constitution that officially came into force on 1 January 1948

Research has highlighted that creativity is essential for organizations’ survival and has to be fostered and managed in organizations. Creativity in some specific industries has additional requirements compared to others: for example, in luxury industries it needs to be combined with the imperative of zero defects. This article explores the trade-offs determined by the articulation of creativity with organizing processes. It investigates the paradoxes between creativity and control, creative freedom and organizational processes, continuous ideas generation and the need of identifying a successful business formula that could be accurately reproduced across time and space. Based on two case studies pertaining to Italian haute cuisine industry, the article investigates how creativity can be organized in luxury industries. It highlights that not only creativity, but also codification is an intrinsic success factor for Michelin starred chefs, as it allows chefs to set and maintain superior quality standards and to successfully transfer the business formula across time to last beyond the first generation

I nomi dietro i numeri: Michele Salvemini aka Caparezza

The present work focusses on the onomastic interest shown by a singer belonging to the new generation of Italian rappers, Michele Salvemini, aka Caparezza. His expressive talent managed to shape an anti-purist language, full of styles and registers, open to dialect and spoken language, which ranges from the younger generations’ language to neologisms, from English to special languages, from jargon to Latin. The pattern of his CDs, a sort of “fononovels”, modernises the structure of the concept-album of the ‘70s on the basis of constant references to contemporary Italian events, news and characters, and of his figure as an artist. Caparezza’s choices shows a linguistic awareness which goes beyond the general trend of this music genre. In particular, the last CD (Prisoner 709) represents an autobiographic translation of an onomastic equivalence in a numerical correspondence which is always unexcepted and where the real name and the pseudonym contrast
