    The research start from the Community Initiative Programme and Interreg II C Metropolization: Western Mediterranean Sea and the Alps. For the Italian context are examined metropolitan areas of Genoa, Naples and Palermo in order to build an observatory the dynamics within the transnational network. The metropolitan area of Genoa is examined with regard to relations with the territories of Milan and Turin, according to the assumptions of the industrial triangle and the dynamics and transformations of its territory. The territory of the central Ligurian area expresses a metropolitan vocation which includes the Province of Genoa and the Province of Savona, both characterized by the dynamics of urban renewal, despite the complexity of the administrative divisions
