Davis - LL.D. / Herbert L. Thomas-Chrm B. of Trustees / June '48 "Chester C. Davis (1887-1975) had varied occupations. He was editor and manager of The Montana Farmer, 1917-1921. He was involved in agricultural service for farm organizations and was administrator of the U.S. Agricultural Adjustment Administration, 1933-1936. He served on the Board of Governors for the Federal Reserve System, 1936-1941, and later as president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, 1941-1945. He was associate director in the Ford Foundation, 1951-1954, and did a study on rural credit in India for the Indian government, 1953-1954. In 1939 he received the Distinguished Service to Agriculture medal from the American Farm Bureau Federation

He has served as historical consultant on various television and film productions. Davis has twice been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in history and is currently professor of history at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. His most recent book, The Civil War in Photographs (Carlton 2002), served as the platform for this interview..
