Simone De Haan: Major C (1980)

    No full text
"Major C consists of a C major chord, the individual notes of the chord recorded in real time ( although some tracks were recorded at slow speeds), and multi-tracked to create a massive layer of sound. The process was primarily concerned with creating subtle changes in timbre, attack and intonation within the overall sound of the chord. Major C was initially recorded at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 1980." -- Simone de Haa

Preservation: Dry. Remarks: Former MNHN, Paris. The catalogue number MZSP 105250 is mentioned twice in Simone’s (2014) paper, among the paratypes of M. ibitingus Simone, 2014 and M. benthovus. This duplicity was a mistake by the author: the latter is an erroneous designation and should be disregarded. The only valid paratype lots for M. benthovus are the ones shown above.Published as part of Cavallari, Daniel C., Dornellas, Ana Paula S. & Simone, Luiz Ricardo L., 2016, Second annotated list of type specimens of molluscs deposited in the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil, pp. 1-59 in European Journal of Taxonomy 213 on page 10, DOI: 10.5852/ejt.2016.213, http://zenodo.org/record/384012

    Simone Weil and Judaism

    No full text
This essay argues that Simone Weil’s fraught relationship with Judaism reveals the ethical and political dimensions of her wider philosophy. It examines Weil’s denunciation of Jewish theology—particularly her critiques of idolatry, nationalism, and the worship of power—and situates these within Weil's broader rejection of force and collective identity. The discussion traces how Weil’s views have provoked accusations of antisemitism while also inspiring nuanced reassessments by thinkers such as Levinas, Chenavier, and Rose. The essay contends that, although Weil’s judgments are often partial and severe, they expose enduring tensions between religion, nationalism, and universal justice. In its final sections, the piece reconsiders Weil’s relevance in the context of Israel’s war on Gaza, arguing that her thought unsettles assumptions about the relationship between Judaism and Zionism. Ultimately, the essay presents Weil’s radical universalism as a challenge to all forms of moral exclusion and political idolatry

P1; all collected in 2012; 3) from type locality. Collector: R. Casati. Preservation: Dry. Remarks: Specimens in the lot MZSP 111835 were listed as paratypes of Rhinus gilbertus by Simone & Casati (2013, original description), but are in fact topotypes of C. capivara, which is described in the same paper. The lot MZSP 111845 contains 9 shells and not 8 as reported in the original description of C. capivara. Simone & Casati (2013) simultaneously reported the catalogue number MZSP 111845 among the paratypes of both C. capivara and Rhinus gilbertus. This catalogue number does not contain paratype specimens of R. gilbertus: this information is incorrect in the original description and should be disregarded.Published as part of Cavallari, Daniel C., Dornellas, Ana Paula S. & Simone, Luiz Ricardo L., 2016, Second annotated list of type specimens of molluscs deposited in the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil, pp. 1-59 in European Journal of Taxonomy 213 on page 13, DOI: 10.5852/ejt.2016.213, http://zenodo.org/record/384012
