A New Vision Regarding Spatial Tensions in Urban Design

    No full text
Together with the urban movements from the 1970s, the 1980s or the contemporary ones, with conflicts regarding the right to the city, social emancipation, political oppression or environmental issues, a different kind of conflict is also entangling the contemporary city: spatial tensions. It is a weaker but more persistent form of conflict happening in any city’s everyday life between opposing forces. Far away from violent conflicts and riotous surges, contemporary tensions are usually hidden, sometimes implicit or explicit: the opposing forces do not turn into a struggle but remain noiselessly and dynamically tense. Also if such a specific form of conflict is many times weak and invisible, it generates strong and relevant transformations of the city: spatial tensions are represented by minute, continuous, overlaid, dilated over time and still in progress modifications of space

Out of the Public: The Archipelago Alternative

    No full text
The transformative potential of tensions in medial territories takes the form of an archipelago of interrelated private stakeholders triggering spatial development. This self-regulating governance model reinforces the alliances between the second and the third sector and leaves the public institution out of the development discourse by defining new actors, new competencies, and new imaginaries. Moreover, since this strengthening of the fabric of society arises from the tension between territories, it is specifically visible in medial territories and is a key feature of planetary urbanization. Far away from laissez-faire, the territorial tension promotes a redefinition of the concept of governance based on the principle of subsidiarity where the main risk is preserving the general interest over private and individual interests. After considering the cases previously presented within the book, the chapter focuses on three experiences from the territory of Biella, Italy: Biella Creative City, Fondazione BIellezza, and the “Demopraxy” program, the example of Bonprix

Zaradi pomanjkanja časa srednjih generacij so stari starši pomemben člen v vzgoji otrok. My diploma work deals with intergenerational cooperation between Pegaz old people\u27s home and kindergarten Rogaška Slatina. Intergenerational cooperation is being of great importance as well as the tolerance among different generations. Kindergarten represents a living space for a child, where he actively learns and gains different capabilities and develops values in intergenerational society. Nowadays we ask ourselves whether the society ensures appropriate environment when the respect of elderly people is being considered. Mutuality among generations is very important, that is why it is significant to be in good terms with each other. Another point is that the role of grandparents is getting more and more important because of the lack of time of the parents. In the early childhood, children are very guidable, so the acquirement of moral values is the priority in education. Because of the lack of the time of middle generation, grandparents play an important part in the child\u27s upbringing. In development of friendly relationship a kindergarten as an institution plays an influential part, with the help of professional workers. They have a special sense for education and they provide certain interaction among children and senior citizens and with their own critical mind, they reject the stereotype that arose in the society through time. Child\u27s cognitive development and the sense of empathy play a crucial part when establishing relationships. Questions asked by children in preschool period are frequent, especially those that the adults are not so willing to answer or just avoid them. But it is very important for a child to get the right information, that we do not invent the answers or interpret them in a wrong way. Our intention is to show different opinions from teachers in the kindergarten and other professional workers, the cooperation with Pegaz old people\u27s home and present the experience of intergenerational cooperation of professional workers of old people\u27s home. We would like to point out some experience in spending time together (between children and elderly people). When we think of most global goals, we consider them as playing part in different social fields, for example to be aware of historic changes, to develop the sense of social understanding, based on the idea of equality and non-discrimination, to meet person\u27s relation towards illness and disability. A child learns that every individual in the society should help and cooperate if we want to make a normal working society, which endorses survival, comfort and well-being of all included. A child is getting to know with different jobs and has the opportunity to develop certain abilities and ways of establishing, maintaining and enjoying in friendly relationship with elderly people. All these include also the understanding other people\u27s behavior and their feelings and courtesy when communicating to each other

The construction of Karen Karnak: The multi-author-function

    No full text
This thesis is situated within the comparatively recent developments of Web 2.0 and the emergence of interactive WikiMedia, and explores the mode of authorship within a Read/Write culture compared to that of a Read/Only tradition. The hypothesis of this study is that the role of the audience has become merged with the author, and as such, represents new functions and attributes, distinct from a more conventional concept of authorship, in which the roles of audience and author are more separate. Read/Write and participatory culture, as defined by this study, is focused on collaboration, and includes the influences of D.I.Y. culture, Open-Source practices and the production of text by multiple authors. Multi-authorship presents a re-thinking of several concepts which support the notion of the individual author, since the focus of multi-authorship is not on attribution and ownership of a finished text, but on the continued malleability of a text. Modes of multi-authorship, demonstrated in the use of the pseudonyms Alan Smithee and Karen Eliot, represent declarative authors whose names signify multiple origins, whilst concurrently indicating a distinct body of work. The function of these names form an important context to this study, since primary research involves the construction of an experimental mode of multi-authorship utilising WikiMedia technology and the interaction of thirty nine participants, who are invited to create a body of work under the collective pseudonym Karen Karnak. The data generated by this experiment is analysed using aspects of Michel Foucault's author-function to identify and determine power structures inherent in the WikiMedia context. The interplay of power structures, including concepts such as identity, ownership and the body of work, affect the resulting mode of authorship and contribute to the construction of Karen Karnak, suggesting further areas of research into the emerging multi-author

Migration is a growing issue, but it remains a challenge to define who actually is a migrant

    No full text
According to the United Nations, more people live in a country other than their place of birth today than ever before. The 2017 migration statistics show that about 34 people out of every 1,000 lived away from their place of birth. This number was over 31 in 2010, and 28 in 2000. Although the number of migrants is expected to grow, a clear understanding of contemporary migration remains a challenge.FALS

POVZETEK IN KLJUČNE BESEDE V diplomskem delu z naslovom Spoznavanje in pomen naravnega okolja v rogaških vrtcih prestavljamo naravno okolje, njegov vpliv in pomen za človeka oz. otroka. The diploma paper with the title Learning about the natural environment and its importance in nursery schools in Rogaška Slatina presents environmental education with its significance and impact on children.
