Motivi letterari nei libri per l’infanzia di Paolo Di Paolo
The article, organised in the form of a discussion, aims to analyse the themes and motifs of Paolo Di Paolo’s works that are addressed to young audiences. The author has recently published a large number of volumes directed just at younger readers. When beholding the titles that constitute the author’s bibliography, the reader is struck by Di Paolo’s predisposition to transform literary classics: as much in Giacomo il signor bambino as in the edition of the Divina Commedia, the author’s goal is to try to reach his new readers. Therefore, Di Paolo proves to be a prolific author of the genre; in fact, in his bibliography, volumes of fairy tales with a classic slant, such as La mucca volante, are listed as well.L’articolo contiene un’analisi di temi e di motivi delle opere di Paolo Di Paolo dirette al pubblico più piccolo. L’autore negli ultimi anni ha pubblicato un cospicuo numero di volumi indirizzati, infatti, proprio ai lettori più giovani. Ciò che stupisce scorgendo i titoli che costituiscono la bibliografia dell’autore, è la predisposizione a trasformare i classici della letteratura: tanto in Giacomo il signor bambino quanto nell’edizione della Divina Commedia l’obiettivo è cercare di raggiungere i lettori più giovani. Pier Paolo Pasolini e la società: il "sogno di una cosa" travolto dalla "nuova preistoria"
L’articolo prende in esame – nel centenario della nascita – il “pensiero politico” di Pier Paolo Pasolini. Vengono pertanto scandagliati (soprattutto) i suoi scritti sulla società, ma frequenti sono le incursioni nella letteratura e soprattutto nel cinema di questo autore del tutto originale. Ne emerge lo spessore di concetti spesso usati dal poeta per analizzare e criticare il presente: Nuova Preistoria, nuovo capitalismo, consumismo, edonismo, il Potere, il Palazzo, il Processo, sviluppo e progresso, sacralità in primis. Si evidenzia inoltre come l’occhio e il giudizio di Pasolini siano stati principalmente guidati dalla passione e solo di rimando dalla ragione. Un ruolo non secondario nella sua percezione del reale ha inoltre assunto la sua omosessualità. Nella parte finale dello scritto si analizzano alcuni strumenti tecnici utilizzati dall’autore per svolgere la propria opera di comprensione del presente e della sua conseguente traduzione artistico-critica.The article examines - in the centenary of his birth - the "political thought" of Pier Paolo Pasolini.
Therefore, it scrutinizes (above all) his writings on society, but there are frequent incursions into the literature and especially into the cinema of this completely original author. What emerges is the depth of concepts often used by the poet to analyze and criticize the present: New Prehistory, new capitalism, consumerism, hedonism, Power, the Palace, the Process, development and progress, sacredness in primis. It also shows how Pasolini's eye and judgment were mainly guided by passion and only by reason. His homosexuality also played a significant role in his perception of reality. In the final part of the paper we analyze some technical tools used by the author to carry out his work of understanding the present and its consequent artistic-critical translation
Effect of Ketamine on the Bispectral Index, Spectral Edge Frequency, and Surgical Pleth Index During Propofol-Remifentanil Anesthesia: An Observational Prospective Trial
Background: Ketamine administration during stable propofol anesthesia is known to be associated with an increase in bispectral index (BIS) but a "deepening" in the level of hypnosis. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the effect-site concentration of ketamine (CeK) and 2 electroencephalogram (EEG)-derived parameters, the BIS and spectral edge frequency (SEF95), after the administration of a ketamine bolus. Secondary aims included investigating the BIS and SEF95 variations with time and changes in the surgical pleth index (SPI). Methods: We conducted an observational, prospective, single-center study analyzing intraoperative data from 14 adult female patients undergoing breast oncologic surgery. During stable propofol-remifentanil target-controlled infusion (TCI) anesthesia, a ketamine analgesic bolus was delivered with the target CeK set to 1 μg.mL-1 (Domino model) corresponding to a dose of 0.57 mg.kg-1 (interquartile range [IQR] 0.56-0.57 mg.kg-1). Once the CeK reached a value of 1 μg.mL-1, the target CeK was set to 0 μg.mL-1. We determined the median BIS, SEF95, and SPI trends with time and as a function of the modeled CeK. Results: BIS and SEF95 showed no significant change from when ketamine was administered to when CeK=1 μg.mL-1, but a significant increase was observed at lower CeKs. The maximum BIS was reached at 16.0 minutes [10.2-22.7 minutes] after CeK=1 μg.mL-1, at CeK=0.22 μg.mL-1 [0.12-0.41 μg.mL-1]. The peak SEF95 value was observed at 10.0 minutes [8.62-14.1 minutes] after CeK=1 μg.mL-1, at CeK=0.43 μg.mL-1 [0.25-0.50 μg.mL-1]. No significant association was found between CeK and the registered SPI values. Conclusions: Our results show that BIS and SEF95, but not SPI, follow a CeK-dependent trend after administering a ketamine bolus. Interestingly, their peak values were not reached at CeK=1 μg.mL-1, but after several minutes after the drug infusion at CeKs in the 0.2 to 0.5 μg.mL-1 range. This may be explained by the specific pharmacodynamics of ketamine and its varying effects at different concentrations, as well as by the time delay associated with the calculation of the BIS
Schnider and Eleveld Models for Propofol Target-Controlled Infusion Anesthesia: A Clinical Comparison
Background: Various pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) models have been developed to accurately dose propofol administration during total intravenous anesthesia with target-controlled infusion (TIVA-TCI). We aim to clinically compare the performance of the Schnider model and the new and general-purpose Eleveld PK/PD model during TIVA-TCI. Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study at a single center, enrolling 78 female patients, including 37 adults (aged < 65 years) and 41 elderly patients (aged ≥ 65 years). These patients underwent breast surgery with propofol-remifentanil TIVA-TCI guided by the bispectral index (BIS) for depth of anesthesia monitoring (target value 40–60) and the surgical plethysmographic index (SPI) for antinociception monitoring (target value 20–50) without neuromuscular blockade. The concentration at the effect site of propofol (CeP) at loss of responsiveness (LoR) during anesthesia maintenance (MA) and at return of responsiveness (RoR), the duration of surgery and anesthesia (min), the time to RoR (min), the propofol total dose (mg), the deepening of anesthesia events (DAEs), burst suppression events (BSEs), light anesthesia events (LAEs) and unwanted spontaneous responsiveness events (USREs) were considered to compare the two PK/PD models. Results: Patients undergoing BIS-SPI-guided TIVA-TCI with the Eleveld PK/PD model showed a lower CeP at LoR (1.7 (1.36–2.25) vs. 3.60 (3.00–4.18) μg/mL, p < 0.001), higher CePMA (2.80 (2.55–3.40) vs. 2.30 (1.80–2.50) μg/mL, p < 0.001) and at RoR (1.48 (1.08–1.80) vs. 0.64 (0.55–0.81) μg/mL, p < 0.001) than with the Schnider PK/PD model. Anesthetic hysteresis was observed only in the Schnider PK/PD model group (p < 0.001). DAEs (69.2% vs. 30.8%, p = 0.001) and BSEs (28.2% vs. 5.1%, p = 0.013) were more frequent with the Eleveld PK/PD model than with the Schnider PK/PD model in the general patient population. DAEs (63.2% vs. 27.3%, p = 0.030) and BSEs (31.6% vs. 4.5%, p = 0.036) were more frequent with the Eleveld PK/PD model than with the Schnider PK/PD model in the elderly. Conclusions: The Schnider and Eleveld PK/PD models impact CePs differently. A greater incidence of DAEs and BSEs in the elderly suggests more attention is necessary in this group of patients undergoing BIS-SPI-guided TIVA-TCI with the Eleveld PK/PD than with the Schnider model

Color flow Doppler sonography rapidly differentiates type I and type II amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis.
Amiodarone-induced thyrotoxicosis (AIT) occurs both in abnormal thyroid glands (nodular goiter, latent Graves' disease) (type I AIT) or in apparently normal thyroid glands (type II AIT). Differentiation of the two forms is crucial, because type I AIT responds well to methimazole and potassium perchlorate combined treatment, whereas type II AIT is effectively managed by glucocorticoids. Differential diagnosis is often difficult, although thyroid radioactive iodine uptake is usually low-to-normal in type I and low-suppressed in type II, and serum interleukin-6 levels are normal/slightly elevated in type I, markedly elevated in type II. Color flow Doppler sonography (CFDS) is a technique that shows intrathyroidal blood flow and provides real-time information on thyroid morphology and hyperfunction. To investigate the usefulness of CFDS in differentiating the two types of AIT, 27 consecutive AIT patients, 11 type I and 16 type II, were evaluated by CFDS before starting antithyroid treatment. Gender, age, severity of thyrotoxicosis, and cumulative amiodarone dose were similar in the two groups. All type II AIT patients had a CFDS pattern 0 (ie, absent vascularity), in agreement with the pathogenesis of the disease, due to thyroid damage. Likewise, nine patients with subacute thyroiditis, another destructive process of the thyroid gland, also had a CFDS pattern 0. Eleven patients with type I AIT had a CFDS pattern ranging from pattern I (presence of parenchymal blood flow with patchy uneven distribution) (7 patients, 64%) to pattern II (ie, mild increase of color flow Doppler signal with patchy distribution) (1 patient, 9%) and pattern III (markedly increased color flow Doppler signal with diffuse homogeneous distribution)(3 patients, 27%), similar to that found in patients with untreated Graves' disease patients, thus indicating a hyper-functioning gland. Control subjects and euthyroid patients under long-term amiodarone treatment had absent thyroid hypervascularity and a CFDS pattern 0. These findings demonstrate that CFDS distinguishes type I and II AIT. Because of its rapidity and noninvasive features, CFDS represents a valuable tool for a quick differentiation between the two types of AIT. This can avoid any delay in initiating the appropriate treatment for a rapid control of thyrotoxicosis in patients whose tachyarrhythmias or other cardiac disorders make thyroid hormone excess extremely deleterious

In 2006 Paolo Dilonardo was chosen by the Susan Sontag Literary Estate as one of the editors of Sontag’s posthumous work. The access to Sontag private archives allowed him and Anne Jump to reconstruct form and intentions of the collection of essays Sontag was outlining in the last years of her life. Through the study of her manuscripts, Dilonardo and Jump prepared the essays for publication, restoring the original version of the pieces that were cut or edited at the time of first publication in magazines, and incorporating the corrections and edits the author made after that first publication. The result of their work is Susan Sontag, At the Same Time. Essays and Speeches, edited by Paolo Dilonardo and Anne Jump. Foreword by David Rieff, published first in the United States then in the U.K. The collection of essays edited by Dilonardo and Jump was then translated into French, Spanish, German and Portuguese. The Italian edition, translated by Paolo Dilonardo, was published by Mondadori in 2008
Data of cost-optimal solutions and retrofit design methods for school renovation in a warm climate
Abstract"Efficient Solutions and Cost-Optimal Analysis for Existing School Buildings" (Paolo Maria Congedo, Delia D’Agostino, Cristina Baglivo, Giuliano Tornese, Ilaria Zacà) [1] is the paper that refers to this article. It reports the data related to the establishment of several variants of energy efficient retrofit measures selected for two existing school buildings located in the Mediterranean area. In compliance with the cost-optimal analysis described in the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and its guidelines (EU, Directive, EU 244,) [2,3], these data are useful for the integration of renewable energy sources and high performance technical systems for school renovation. The data of cost-efficient high performance solutions are provided in tables that are explained within the following sections.The data focus on the describe school refurbishment sector to which European policies and investments are directed. A methodological approach already used in previous studies about new buildings is followed (Baglivo Cristina, Congedo Paolo Maria, D׳Agostino Delia, Zacà Ilaria, 2015; IlariaZacà, Delia D’Agostino, Paolo Maria Congedo, Cristina Baglivo; Baglivo Cristina, Congedo Paolo Maria, D’Agostino Delia, Zacà Ilaria, 2015; Ilaria Zacà, Delia D’Agostino, Paolo Maria Congedo, Cristina Baglivo, 2015; Paolo Maria Congedo, Cristina Baglivo, IlariaZacà, Delia D’Agostino,2015) [4–8]. The files give the cost-optimal solutions for a kindergarten (REF1) and a nursery (REF2) school located in Sanarica and Squinzano (province of Lecce Southern Italy). The two reference buildings differ for construction period, materials and systems.The eleven tables provided contain data about the localization of the buildings, geometrical features and thermal properties of the envelope, as well as the energy efficiency measures related to walls, windows, heating, cooling, dhw and renewables. Output values of energy consumption, gas emission and costs are given for a financial and a macro-economic analysis.This data article provides 288 and 96 combinations for REF1 and REF2, respectively. The output values are obtained using the software ProCasaClima 2015v.2.0
