A polymeric micro-optic device for the detection of microfluidic flow spatial profile
No full textThis paper reports a miniaturized device for a spatially distributed characterization of microfluidic two-phase flow, exploiting a multi-wavelength optical signal. The device implements four optical windows (slits) which, superimposed on the centerline of a microfluidic channel, collect flow-related information through specific wavelengths. An advanced polymeric micro-optic design is used to guide and merge spatially distributed information into a single output signal, which maintains memory of the spatial coordinates by using the wavelengths as fingerprints of the slits' positions
Prediction Models for the Corrosion Phenomena in Pulp & Paper Plant
No full textIn this paper two predictive methods have been developed in order to cope with the monitoring of the corrosion phenomena in a Pulp & Paper plant. The data of the process has been collected in Wisaforest pulp mill, located in Pietarsari (Finland), in three periods characterised by three different operating conditions. Two different strategies have been adopted, firstly using a classical multi-layer perceptron and then using the neuro-fuzzy expert systems. Moreover, both nonlinear moving average models and NARMAX ones have been designed. The results obtained allow to predict the corrosion potential accurately
