Overlap of the larger LV over the RV on the whole outline, more pronounced ventrally. Hmax at 1 / 3 posterior; Lmax slightly dorsal; Wmax about at mid-dorsal. Straight hinge line and dorsal margin. Cardinal angles of about 120 °. Well rounded and regularly convex free margins. Anterior part of the carapace slightly higher than the posterior one. Long sulcus in the posterior part of both valves, extending from the dorsal to the ventral margins. Marked adductorial sulcus at mid-dorsal and slightly anterior. Two lobes, framing the adductorial sulcus, merged into an oblique shoulder projecting over the dorsal margin. Surface very finely reticulated. Discussion. The two lobes merged in an oblique shoulder over the dorsal margin are a feature of this typical Givetian species, also characterized by its small-size. Occurrence. Lower and Middle Givetian (Névremont, Terres d’Haurs and Mont d’Haurs Fms, and Fromelennes Fm, Flohimont Member), Ardenne (Flohimont, Cul d’Houille, Aisemont and Aisne sections), Middle Givetian (Candás Fm, mb C), Asturias (Peran-Perlora section); Givetian, Boulonnais, Eifel and Poland.Published as part of Maillet, Sebastien, Milhau, Bruno, Vreulx, Michel & Posada, Luis-Carlos Sánchez De, 2016, Givetian ostracods of the Candás Formation (Asturias, North-western Spain): taxonomy, stratigraphy, palaeoecology, relationship to global events and palaeogeographical implications, pp. 1-78 in Zootaxa 4068 (1) on page 18, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4068.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/27064

Refrathella cf. struvei Becker, 1967 (Pl. I: Fig. 14) cf. 1967 Refrathella struvei nov. sp.; Becker: pl. I, figs. 1–9. cf. 2013 Refrathella struvei Becker; Maillet: 62, pl. VI, figs. 14–15. 2013 Refrathella sp. B., cf. R. struvei Becker; Maillet: 63, pl. VI, fig. 17. cf. 2013 Refrathella struvei Becker; Casier in Casier & Préat: 488, pl. II, fig. 15, pl. III, fig. 1. Material. 8 specimens (5 V, 3 F). Description. Medium-sized elongated and equivalve carapace, sub-rectangular outline in lateral view, arrowhead-shaped in dorsal view. Hmax at 1 / 3 anterior; Lmax at 1 / 3 dorsal; Wmax in the postero-ventral part (at ridge extremity). Straight hinge line and dorsal margin. Adductorial sulcus slightly anterior to mid-dorsal. Slightly convex ventral margin, posteriorly oblique. Well rounded and regularly convex anterior margin, forming an angle of about 120 ° with the dorsal margin. Slightly rounded posterior margin, more arched in its ventral part, forming an angle of about 120 ° with the dorsal margin. Anterior part of the carapace higher than the posterior one. Surface with very large reticles, except along the free margins of the carapace. Smooth and flattened free margins. Marked ridge in the ventral half of each valve, formed by two lines of large reticles. Ridge long of 5 / 6 of Lmax beginning at the anterior margin and becoming more prominent in its posterior part, thus forming lateral robust wings in dorsal view. Discussion. A Refrathella characterized by a larger carapace than R. struvei Becker, 1967 and a carina with thick ridges on each valve. Occurrence. The elongation of the carapace, its fine reticulation and the very marked vertical ridge in its posterior part are features of this species, both in juveniles and adults. Occurrences. Upper Emsian to Middle Givetian (Chefar el Ahmar Fm), Saoura (Km 30 section), Middle Givetian (Candás Fm, mbs A and B), Asturias (Peran-Perlora section) and Palencia, Middle/Upper Givetian, Mouthoumet Massif (Berco Petito section); Givetian, Ardenne and Morocco.Published as part of Maillet, Sebastien, Milhau, Bruno, Vreulx, Michel & Posada, Luis-Carlos Sánchez De, 2016, Givetian ostracods of the Candás Formation (Asturias, North-western Spain): taxonomy, stratigraphy, palaeoecology, relationship to global events and palaeogeographical implications, pp. 1-78 in Zootaxa 4068 (1) on pages 44-45, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4068.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/27064

    The (im)possibilities of teaching-learning freedom

    No full text
Twenty-one years after a free and democratic South Africa was constituted, it seems as if South Africans are still in limbo. In this article, the author explores the essence of freedom as conceptualised by Arendt (1958, 1966, 1900, 2006) and the (im)possibilities of teaching-learning freedom towards continual new beginnings. Freedom and new beginnings are actualised when humans speak and act in equal difference. The possibilities of teaching-learning freedom rely on the acknowledgement of both the burden and the power of freedom and in unexpected acts of compassion and forgiveness in the teacher:child relationship (Becker 2013, 26). Using a phenomenological approach, the author explores qualitative data from the research project Human rights literacy: A quest for meaning (Roux 2012) to explore the (im)possibilities of teaching-learning freedom

XIV, fig. 22. Material. 3 specimens (2 V, 1 F). Diagnosis. Becker (1969, p. 259). Description. Medium-sized almost equivalve carapace, sub-oval and slender posteriorly in lateral view. Hmax at 2 / 5 anterior; Lmax slightly ventral; Wmax almost median. Highly arched dorsal margin, strongly oblique both anteriorly and posteriorly from Hmax. Convex ventral margin, becoming more arched at its extremities. Ventral and dorsal margins clearly converging anteriorly and posteriorly. Regularly convex anterior margin, forming an angle of about 140 ° with the dorsal margin. Regularly convex posterior margin, very highly arched, forming an angle of about 145 ° with the dorsal margin. Anterior part of the carapace slightly higher than the posterior one. Surface smooth. Longitudinal U-shaped ventral sulcus, extending from the antero-dorsal part to the postero-dorsal part, where it forms a stick towards the internal part of the valves. Two vertical short sulci below the dorsal margin, one median, the other slightly anterior. Carina along the free margins of the carapace. Discussion. Although rather badly preserved, our specimens exhibit all the features of the species, and particularly the connection between the ventral sulcus and the S 3, forming a reversed “U”. Occurrences. Emsian to Frasnian, Asturias; Givetian, Morocco; Middle Devonian, Ardenne, Eifel and Poland.Published as part of Maillet, Sebastien, Milhau, Bruno, Vreulx, Michel & Posada, Luis-Carlos Sánchez De, 2016, Givetian ostracods of the Candás Formation (Asturias, North-western Spain): taxonomy, stratigraphy, palaeoecology, relationship to global events and palaeogeographical implications, pp. 1-78 in Zootaxa 4068 (1) on pages 37-38, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4068.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/27064
