<i>Dohrniphora brevisimplex</i> sp. n. <p>(Figs 77–78, 279)</p> <p> Species recognition. This species is most similar to <i>D. simplex</i>, but the ventral line is shorter and <i>D. simplex</i> lacks clear areas on the hind femur.</p> <p>Description. Body length: 1.81–2.09 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 round, yellow. Palpus of normal size, orange. Thorax: Scutum brown. Scutellum brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron yellowish-brown (brown dorsally). Mean costal length 0.54 wing length, range 0.52–0.55. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe light brown, round. Posterior face of hind femur with short basal line and short ascending double row of peglike setae; ventral margin with clear areas at line and below apex of group (Fig. 279); without strong depression (Figs 77–78). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen whitish-yellow, segments 3–6 brown laterally, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.</p> <p>Distribution. Amazonian Colombia.</p> <p> Derivation of specific epithet. <i>Dohrniphora megobscena</i> sp. n. <p>(Figs 49–50, 320, 327)</p> <p> Species recognition. This species is similar to <i>D. bugenitalis</i>, but the pattern of peglike setae on the hind femur is of two parallel lines.</p> <p>Description. Body length: 1.69–1.78 mm. Head: Frons brown, ocellar triangle darker, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, light brown. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum light brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron with anepisternum and proepisternum brown, rest of pleuron light brown. Mean costal length 0.54 wing length, range 0.52–0.55. Halter light brown. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres 1–4 enlarged, flattened (Fig. 327). Midcoxa light brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe light brown, round, elongate. Posterior face of hind femur with well-spaced, relatively long peglike setae in single ventral row and well-separated, more dorsal single to double row (Figs 49–50). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 brown, tergites 2–6 with tergites 2–5 light brown anteriorly and medially, brown posterolaterally; tergite 6 mostly light brown, except brown on posterior one-fifth. Venter of abdomen whitish-yellow, bare. Male terminalia brown, cercus yellow, greatly enlarged (Fig. 320).</p> <p>Distribution. Central America.</p> <p> Derivation of specific epithet. <i>Dohrniphora flammidorsa</i> sp. n. <p>(Figs 47–48)</p> <p> Species recognition. This species differs from the similar <i>D. bugenitalis</i> by characters in the key, most notably the bright orange color of the dorsum of the abdominal tergites.</p> <p>Description. Body length: 1.81–1.91 mm. Head: Frons light brown, lighter ventrally; ocellar triangle darker, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum yellowish brown. Scutellum brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron yellowish-brown. Mean costal length 0.53 wing length. Halter light brown. Legs mostly yellow. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 3 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres 1–4 enlarged, flattened. Midcoxa yellow. <i>Dohrniphora acarinata</i> sp. n. <p>(Figs 125–126)</p> <p> Species recognition. This species is one of the few <i>D. angularis</i> -group species lacking a dorsal carina on the hind femur; the others are <i>D</i>. <i>brunneifrons</i> and <i>D. wangae</i>, both of which have large hind tibial setae. The elongate peglike setae in <i>D. acarinata</i> further separate it from these other two species.</p> <p>Description. Body length: 1.81–2.31 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, brown. Palpus of normal size, light brown. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum light brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron with anepisternum and proepisternum brown, rest of pleuron light brown. Mean costal length 0.48 wing length. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 4–5 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa yellow. Hind coxal lobe yellow, short, narrow, dorsally curved. Posterior face of hind femur with basal elongate group of relatively elongate peglike setae; more distally with brown-colored, square ventral concavity (Figs 125–126). <i>Dohrniphora nigricarina</i> sp. n. <p>(Figs 115–116, 283)</p> <p> Species recognition. The hind femur of <i>D</i>. <i>atrilinea</i> is similar to that of <i>D. nigricarina</i>, but in that species the group of peglike setae is more oval in shape, and an additional small, toothlike carina is present.</p> <p>Description. Body length: 1.53–2.19 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, light brown. Thorax: Scutum brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta one-half length of posterior seta. Pleuron brown. Mean costal length 0.49 wing length, range 0.47–0.51. Halter whitish-yellow. Legs light brown. Forecoxa in lateral view light brown. Foretibia with 4–5 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa dark brown. Hind coxa brown. Hind coxal lobe brown, only slightly developed. Posterior face of hind femur with basal, largely peripheral, group of peglike setae; more distally with spinuli-filled concavity surrounded by carina that appears black or dark brown in light microscopy (Figs 115–116, 283). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia brown, cercus yellow.</p> <p>Distribution. Mexico to western Colombia. The elevational range of this species in Costa Rica, from near sea level to 1600 m, is unusually large.</p> <p>Derivation of specific epithet. <i>Dohrniphora curvilinea</i> sp. n. <p>(Figs 31–32)</p> <p> Species recognition. With its curved line of curved-tipped peglike setae, this species most closely resembles <i>D. procera</i>, but unlike it there is no emargination in the ventral margin of the hind femur. It is also similar to <i>D. pirirostris</i>, but there are nine peglike setae in <i>D. curvilinea</i> and only five in <i>D. pirirostris</i>.</p> <p>Description. Body length: 2.56–2.75 mm. Head: Frons dark brown, second row of setae slightly concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, yellow. Palpus of normal size, yellow. Thorax: Scutum brown. Scutellum dark brown, with 2 pairs of setae; anterior seta three-quarters length of posterior seta. Pleuron dark brown. Mean costal length 0.52 wing length, range 0.51–0.52. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellowish-brown. Foretibia with 6–7 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa yellowish-brown. Hind coxal lobe yellow, only slightly developed. Posterior face of hind femur with curved single row of curved-tipped peglike setae; more distally with shallow concavity (Figs 31–32). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 dark brown, tergites 2–6 dark brown. Venter of abdomen gray, with few longer setae on segment 5. Male terminalia brown, cercus yellow.</p> <p>Distribution. Known from a single site in Rondônia, Brazil.</p> <p>Derivation of specific epithet. From Latin words for curved line, referring to the arrangement of peglike setae on the hind femur.</p> <p>Holotype. ♂, BRAZIL: Rondonia: 62 km SE Ariquemes, 8–20.xii.1994, W.J. Head: Frons brown, second row of setae concave. Flagellomere 1 rounded-oval, light brown. Palpus of normal size, orange. Thorax: Scutum light brown. Scutellum dark brown, with setae broken. Pleuron with proepisternum and dorsum of anepisternum brown, rest of pleuron yellowish-brown. Costa 0.45 wing length. Halter yellow. Legs yellowish-brown. Forecoxa in lateral view yellow. Foretibia with 4 dorsal setae. Foretarsomeres slender, elongate. Midcoxa brown. Hind coxa yellow. Hind coxal lobe light brown, short, with ventral projection. Posterior face of hind femur with elongate, arrowheadshaped basal group of peglike setae; concavity large, oval, with large basal and distal white membranous areas (Figs 161–162, 292). Abdomen: Abdominal tergite 1 brown, tergites 2–6 with tergite 2 yellow anteriorly and brown posteriorly; subsequent tergites with decreasing yellow areas. Venter of abdomen whitish-gray, with few setae, larger on posterior margin of segment 5. Male terminalia with epandrium yellowish-brown, hypandrium brown, and cercus yellow.</p> <p>Distribution. Known from a single site in French Guiana.</p> <p>Derivation of specific epithet.
