Benjamin Brown states that he is experiencing difficulties. A loan of three or four hundred dollars would be acceptable. He had written Rotch previously but received no response. Rotch loaned hard currency which was in short supply, with interest to other Quakers whom he knew and trusted. He was in fact not unlike a bank, he kept records down to the last penny and depended on Friends to make good on their debts to him. 7.9" x 13.5" (20 by 32 cm

Beginning in 1911, Brown (nee Lipshitz) served as leader of the Clarion Colony in Sanpete County, Utah. "In 1923, Benjamin Brown and three others formed the Central Utah Poultry Exchange, originally for chicken and egg production, but which gradually included turkey growers. The Central Utah Poultry Exchange morphed into the Utah Poultry Producers Cooperative Association, which in turn became Intermountain Farmers Association." -- from Mormon Pioneer National Heritage Area press release. Brown later returned to the east coast where he conceived and planned the Jersey Homesteads in New Jersey, 1936-1937
