Monitoring the injured spinal cord
Amanda Cheung, a UBC 3MT Semi-Finalist, presents their research on a non-invasive sensor they developed using Near-Infrared Spectroscopy, or NIRS, to monitor oxygen levels in spinal cord tissues in real time. They hope, with further testing, this new technology will be a tool to help doctors better treat spinal cord injury. Amanda Cheung is completing their PhD in Neuroscience under the supervision of Dr. Brian Kwon and Dr. Babak Shadgan.Medicine, Faculty ofUnreviewedGraduat
Monitoring oxygen levels in the injured spinal cord
Amanda Cheung was a finalist in the 2022 UBC Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Amanda presented their research, "Monitoring oxygen levels in the injured spinal cord." They hope to develop an implantable sensor that uses Near-Infrared Spectroscopy or NIRS technology, to monitor the oxygen status of the spinal cord to prevent further damage after an injury. Amanda Cheung is completing their PhD in Neuroscience in the Faculty of Medicine at The University of British Columbia under the supervision of Dr. Brian Kwon & Dr. Babak Shadgan.Medicine, Faculty ofUnreviewedGraduat
Some Weighted Hardy-type Inequalities of Vector-Valued Functions
By adopting the C-technique of Cheung and Pečrić, we establish some interesting weighted Hardy-type inequalities of vector-valued functions. These generalize and improve some existing results of Cheung, Cheung-Hanjš-Pēcarić, Hanjš-Love-Pečarić, Levinson, and Pachpatte. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR
Track Before Detect for Space Situation Awareness
This article considers the application of multi-target tracking algorithms to Space Situation awareness. The sensor is a telescope fitted with an optical band digital camera. Two different tracking paradigms are demonstrated: the first approach is a detect-then-track method that uses frame-to-frame registration to model the star field and detect a moving satellite, the detections are processed using a point-measurement tracker; the second is a track-before-detect algorithm that uses the telescope images directly as input and jointly tracks the stars and the satellite. The two are compared on experimental imagery collected from a telescope system.Samuel J. Davey, Travis Bessell, Brian Cheung, and Mark Rutte
