Living as a diakonos of Christ and pastoral care to the narcissistically entitled person / Gert Breed

    No full text
In many research documents, the current age is called the age of entitlement. Closely associated with entitlement is narcissism. When the church encounters such widespread phenomena, she should consider possibilities and ways to address them in her pastoral care. This theoretical argument of the article is that the church could pastorally care for a Christian who leads a life of narcissistic entitlement, by guiding him to lead the life of a diakonos of Christ according to the New Testament. The relationship between Narcissism and entitlement is described as well as the characteristics of entitled persons and how problems can develop from a narcissistically entitled attitude. A short description is then given of a pastoral process that can be used. Part of the counselling process is to bring someone in the presence of God (coram Deo) to understand what God’s mercy and his prescriptions mean to him or her in his problematic situation. Lastly different passages where the diakon words occur in the New Testament were studied and applied to the pastoral care of a narcissistically entitled person in the coram Deo phase of pastoral care. Based on the results, it can be concluded that in the coram Deo phase of the pastoral process, the pastoral care of narcissistically entitled persons can be enhanced by leading them to embrace and practise their identity as diakonos of Christ

Materials include: junior high school, high school, and camp community newsletters in both Japanese and English, a short travel journal written by Kenji Kaware of his time away from the Psoton camp, visiting the Granada camp in Colorado and Salt Lake and the Topaz camp in Utah, photographs of class groups, farm workers, and desert landscape, watercolor paintings of the camp facilities, and programs and booklets of the family and community reunions of the Poston incarceration camp

'Aan die' and 'besig' in Afrikaans progressive construction: a corpus investigation (2)

Aan die and besig in Afrikaans progressive construction : a corpus investigation (2) Progressive aspect is a grammatical category which signifies that an event is continuing or taking place (Comrie 1976:33-36; Bybee et al. 1994:126). In two articles, this article and (Breed & Van Huyssteen 2014), we investigate the manner in which two periphrastic constructions, namely the VCOP besig om te V and the VCOP aan die V constructions, are used to express progressive meaning in Afrikaans. The discussions are based on a corpus investigation in which the three Afrikaans periphrastic progressive constructions (the two already mentioned) and the VPOS en V constructions are compared to each other (Breed 2012; Breed & Brisard 2015). Dutch has three similar constructions, and for this reason the constructions were also compared to the Dutch ones where relevant. Breed and Brisard (2015) explains how the VPOS en construction is used to express progressive meaning. In this article and in Breed and Van Huyssteen (2014) the focus is therefore on the specific manner in which the besig and aan die constructions are used as progressive markers

Characterization of the Italian sheep breed Cornella Bianca

The Cornella Bianca (CO) is a native Italian ovine breed, belonging to the Apennines breed cluster. The last information about the state of this sheep population was from 1983, when about 2000-2500 animals where detected, mostly reared in the provinces of Bologna and Modena. A study, including population census, morfological, productive and genetic characterization of CO, has been recently carried out with the aim to characterize and preserve this autochthon breed. A total number of 750 animals, distributed in 16 different stocks, where detected, located in the provinces of Modena, Reggio Emilia, Bologna, Ferrara and Rovigo. Transhumance is already utilized by some shepherd. The presence of animals of another breed, Massese (MA), reared in the same herds with CO was very often detected. This last breed, specialized for milk production, has probably been utilized in the last decades to improve the milk productivity of CO. The study revealed that milk is the main production for CO, utilized for cheese-making. Linear measures of 49 animals were collected and these data show that the current CO population meets the breed standard. The evaluation of the genetic structure of CO was investigated using 15 microsatellites. The analyses where carried out on 31 CO individuals. Comparison with three other breeds belonging to the Apennines cluster, reared in neighbouring territories (35 Massese – MA, 29 Garfagnina Bianca – GA and 31 Zerasca – ZE) was studied. Observed and expected heterozygosity, mean number of alleles, F statistics, and Nei’s genetic standard distance (Ds) where calculated. The neighbour-joining tree topology was also obtained. A total of 140 alleles (from 7 to 16 alleles per microsatellite) were detected. Average heterozygosity was 0.693 in CO and ranged from 0.676 to 0.738 in the other three breeds. Gene differentiation coefficient (Fst) had an average value of 0.053. Standard Nei’s genetic distance values ranged from 0.132 between CO and MA and 0.271 between GA and ZE. In the Phylogenetic tree CO and MA form a separate cluster. These data confirm the introduction of MA rams in CO population. This study shows a strong decreasing in number of Cornella Bianca population in the last 25 years. Prosecution of the utilize of other breed for crossing could be very dangerous for the survival of this rare breed

Body Measures in Endangered Domestic Balkan Donkey Breed

Information regarding morphology of endangered autochthonous donkey breed in Serbia is insufficient. The aim of the study was to establish 18 morphometric values for the Balkan donkey breed and to explore possible age dependence of the parameters tested. In addition, inter-breed similarity of morphometric parameters was assessed by comparing the data obtained for the Balkan donkey with available morphometric measurements of several previously characterized donkey breeds. The study population included 74 donkeys, divided in two age groups (group A ≤ 3 years; group B > 3 years). Significant morphometric differences (p<0.05) in body length, head length, chest circumference and body weight were found between two age groups. Significant differences in morphological parameters were revealed among the Balkan donkey and other donkey breeds (Catalonian, Croatian and Albanian). However, the smallest distance was between the Balkan donkey and Albanian donkeys as demonstrated by the results of cluster analysis. The results of morphometric analyses showed consistency of the obtained values within the breed, and diversity as compared to other donkey breeds, and, thus, could be taken as referent for the Domestic Balkan donkey. The information gained through this comprehensive morphometric characterization of the Balkan donkey breed provides a basis for conservation and development of the breed standard
