Stories, memories and lives : building a multicultural Public History of Education in an action-research project
Introduction to the contents of the book that reflect theoretically and empirically on the process and results of an international project financed with European funds. The project's goal combines historical knowledge of the Roma genocide occurred during World War II with an analysis of the construction of prejudice and the role that racism has had on the collective consciousness of a modern society

Valuing benefits from buildings energy savings: An econometric approach
Energy certifycation attests the buildings energy performance and it was introduced by the European Directive 2002/91/CE as a tool for supporting information and transparency in real estate markets. The present paper intends to investigate the role of the energy certification in the formation of the market value of an estate. In particular, the study proposes an application of the Hedonic Prices method on a sample of residential buildings located in the city of Torino. The objective of the application is to determine the willingness to pay of the buyers with respect to energy-efficient buildings. The outputs of the research show that the consumers demonstrate to appreciate high energy performance classes and this results is aligned with the main findings coming from other international scientific studies. The obtained results could be further verified through the integration of the proposed approach with the cost-optimal methodology

Application and use of the ISEW for assessing the sustainability of a regional system: A case study in Italy
The Index of Sustainable Economic Welfare (ISEW) was introduced by Daly and Cobb in 1989 in order to integrate the information embodied in GDP. Since economic growth implies externalities and market failures, and a portion of it can be defined as "uneconomic", the ISEW method introduces some corrections and adjustments to the GDP calculation framework. The ISEW has been calculated for a number of nations but it has been rarely applied to sub-national systems. Its calculation at the local level is important especially in case of administrative decentralization, and autonomy and responsibility of local authorities in certain fields. For this reason, a more and more comprehensive knowledge of the characteristics and peculiarities of the territorial system they manage is necessary. This paper presents the results of the ISEW calculation for Tuscany, a region in central Italy, in the period 1971-2006. This is one of the few attempts to apply the ISEW in time series at the regional level. Final results show that a discrepancy between ISEW and GDP appeared in the 1970s. Social and environmental pressures increased during the period under study making the gap equal to about 30 percent of regional GDP in 2006. The ISEW can be used also as a tool for evaluating policies, but further adjustments in calculation of certain items are considered necessary for taking into account and evaluating punctual policies. A case of energy policy is presented. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved
Lambrusco di Sorbara: pollination tests with alternative cultivars to Lambrusco salamino
With the aim to identify possible alternative pollinators of Lambrusco di Sorbara grown in San Prospero (MO), an experimental trial was carried out in the years 2008 and 2010. This study has compared pollination tests of Lambrusco di Sorbara with Petit verdot, Cabernet sauvignon and Syrah, with the traditional pollination between Lambrusco di Sorbara and Lambrusco Salamino. At the same time, vegetative-productive and quality behaviours of the three international cultivars have been observed in order to identify any possible use as complementary varieties in this area. Even if the two years have shown a variable behaviour due to the different meteorological conditions, in general, the association with Petit verdot has shown interesting results, while in terms of international cultivar behaviour important differences between the control test and the cultivars have been identified. These differences can be usefully interpreted according to the objective pursued in wine production. They can further suggest the integration of local grapwines with international cultivars (es. Petit verdot) which could also represent a competitive advantage in foreign wine market
