A functional description of how to establish a connection in the Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS)
No full textIn accordance with the development of the signalling on the radiopath and in the network of this new system, the author of this document has performed a Master thesis of the Delft University of Technology at the Dutch PTT (one of the participants). The goal of this Master thesis is to develop functions and their relationships which are needed to establish, maintain and release a (speech) connection in UMTS and, secondly, to describe the function’s functional behaviour in detail. The results of this Master thesis are presented in this document in the form of a functioned description according to COTT recommendations. First, the results present functions and their relationships which are needed for the establishment, maintainence and release of both a call connection and a bearer connection in the public environment (i.e. the street). For both connections, alternative procedures are described. These alternatives are a consequence of the separation of the call control and the bearer (connection) control because this separation offers a more flexible and efficient use of network resources. The functional behaviour for the procedure with the ’best’ fulfilment of the requirements is described in SDL diagrams. Secondly, the public environment functions and relationships are used for the creation of a mobile to mobile connection in the other three environments which are defined for UMTS: business (e.g. the office), domestic (e.g. a house) and the mobile environment (e.g. a train). Beyond the Correspondence: An Archival Research of the BPH
No full textI named my work Beyond the Correspondence. In the archival research I conducted on the Post Box for the Development of the Habitat (the B.P.H. mailbox), I analyzed the content of the publications which are stored in the archives of the Het Nieuwe Institute Rotterdam. I realized that there is so much beyond the correspondence and understanding of the dynamic of Team 10, the post box, and its value. The postbox has developed and become a worldwide amazing network.During B.P.H.'s twelve years of operation, 398 letters arrived at Bakema`s mailbox. The letters, sent from private architects, as well as from international organizations and universities, contained information on new publications, projects, and collaboration invitations. Bakema used a very efficient categorizing system, arranging the content in four columns (which after a few years became four lines) – Author, Date, Subject, and Main points. Overall Bakema published eighteen issues at irregular intervals over the years. Within the development of Team 10 as a group, I analyzed through Tuckman`s model of four stages for group development. I noticed that the B.P.H. publications held a similar evolution process. That led me to my research questions – Has the B.P.H. turned into a professional international network? Does the postbox live a dynamic of its own?I analyzed the publications thoroughly, following the number of letters Bakema received, the sources, issues that arose, and Bakema's general summaries regarding the B.P.H. conduction. I summed up in a table the main topics in each of the publications and I highlighted the stages of development, the main themes, and the growing power of the B.P.H. as a virtual group.My study shows the astonishing power that the postbox had as a network virtual group prior to the internet era, indicating its importance in the history of professional networking in the architectural field, which resembles today`s professional network LinkedIn.Particularly interesting is the phenomenon that from being almost a naïve means of communication between Team 10 members, it has become a stage in a virtual conference room, when one is lecturing, the others are listening, and are welcome to start a discussion and give and receive feedback.AR2A011Architecture, Urbanism and Building Science

No full textIn het kader van onderzoek naar draadloze binnenshuis datacommunicatie ontstond de behoefte om na te gaan in hoeverre diffuse binnenshuis infra-rood communicatie van dienst kan zijn. Als eerste terreinverkenning werd een literatuuronderzoek gestart, waaruit inzicht moest worden verkregen in de huidige stand der techniek. Dit inzicht heeft betrekking op de fysieke componenten, de mogelijke modulatietechnieken, de gangbare protocollen en mogelijke netwerkstructuren. Ontwerp van een bibliodataterminal ten behoeve van literatuuronderzoek per computer
No full textOp het moment staat er in de Centrale Bibliotheek van de Technische Hogeschool Delft een terminal opgesteld, die aangesloten is op het ESA-IRS-Quest systeem. Dit systeem biedt de gebruiker op basis van trefwoorden en logische combinaties daarvan de mogelijkheid om m.b.v. een computer te Italië een literatuuronderzoek te verrichten. In dit verslag is aangegeven hoe de toegankelijkheid van dit systeem in Delft zou kunnen worden verbeterd. Hierbij is o.a. gedacht aan het plaatsen van enkele terminals op de verschillende afdelingen. Voordat aan het ontwerp van dit nieuwe systeem is begonnen, is eerst een onderzoek gedaan naar het kommunikatieprotocol, dat gebruikt wordt voor de verzending van de berichten van en naar Italië. Simulatieprogramma van routeringsmethoden met behulp van een simulatiepakket
No full textEr is al eerder een routeringsmethode ontworpen voor wijzigende netwerken. Om de route in te stellen wordt gebruik gemaakt van 'flooding'. Van de performance van deze methode zijn echter geen gegevens bekend. Om die gegevens te krijgen is nu een simulatie programma geschreven. Aan deze simulatie worden een aantal eisen gesteld voor wat betreft de invoer en uitvoer van gegevens. Het moet mogelijk zijn om deze ook van randapparatuur te krijgen of daar naar toe te sturen. Voordat het programma geschreven kan worden, moet echter eerst de te gebruiken taal gekozen worden. Omdat het om een simulatie programma gaat, ligt het voor de hand om hiervoor een simulatie taal te gebruiken. Van deze talen wordt eerst gekeken of ze aan de gestelde eisen voldoen, daarna worden de overgebleven talen met elkaar vergeleken. Uiteindelijk blijkt dat SIMSCRIPT II.5 de meest geschikte taal is. Op de routerings methode zijn ook een aantal varianten bedacht. Deze zijn ook in het simulatieprogramma verwerkt. Om de uitkomsten van verschillende simulaties met elkaar te vergelijken is ook nog een tweede programma geschreven. Hierbij worden gegevens verzameld uit een aantal invoerfiles.
