Effect of irrigation on Sant’Erasmo violet artichoke production: preliminary assessments
No full textThe violet artichoke is a typical horticultural product of the Venice Lagoon (Italy). In this area, the artichoke is not normally irrigated but, due to rising temperatures and increasingly prolonged periods of drought, linked to ongoing climate change, farmers are considering introducing irrigation, also to counteract excessive rising of brackish water. A test was carried out in 2021 in a plot of a farm located in Sant’Erasmo island (site that also names the product), in two distinct periods: a first period, from April 20 to June 7, to assess the influence of irrigation on the production of buds, and a second period, after summer vegetative recovery, from August 20 to December 15, to analyse the influence on the production of leaves (thistles or cardoons). The plot was divided in three theses: irrigated with a single drip line, irrigated with a double drip line, and no irrigated (control). Irrigation volumes were calculated using a simplified water balance based on crop evapotranspiration ETc (estimated using the FAO method) and daily rainfall data recorded by a nearby weather station. The results of the first period were influenced by heavy and frequent rainfall which did not allow to assess the effect of irrigation. In the second period, which followed a long and droughty summer, results showed significant differences, with a higher production in terms of quantity of biomass harvested (total and marketable) in the irrigated thesis. In addition, the number of shoots and the plant heights showed statistically significant differences between single-line and double-line drip irrigation systems, with the former probably benefiting from a water supply closer to the rhizome, also proving to be the better solution in terms of functionality, irrigation efficiency and cost

No full textEste estudo tem por objetivo promover uma reestruturação administrativa da empresa Bortolini Comércio de Alimentos, fazendo uma análise de toda a sua estrutura organizacional, desde a sua origem, sua história até os dias atuais. Analisando possíveis métodos e alternativas que possam fazer com que seus fluxos de atividades e informações sejam melhorados. Há empresa tem um grande potencial de mercado, devido ao tempo que atua no seu ramo, já estando estabelecida e focada no seu negócio. Porém necessita de uma reestruturação, para um melhor enquadramento das atividades, pois encontra uma sobrecarga dos atuais colaboradores que prejudica diretamente o dia-a-dia da organização, onde todos os controles ainda são feitos manualmente, o ajuste destes detalhes facilitaria o desenvolvimento da empresa e possibilitaria assim um melhor lucro e um melhor desempenho. Desta forma diversas estratégias de finalidade especifica podem ser implementadas, ferramentas mais modernas, que já são utilizadas no mercado podem auxiliar na inovação da organização. Além de ferramentas, outras estratégias como sua colocação no mercado, a possibilidade de contratação de mais funcionários e a abertura de novos clientes serão explanados a fundo, para viabilizar um possível crescimento da organização como um todo. Nesta pesquisa foi utilizado o meio qualitativo como enfoque, verificando todo o comportamento interno da empresa e cenário externo, possibilitando assim uma grande explanação de seus concorrentes e de como eles estão atuando no mercado. A pesquisa por meio exploratório possibilita a verdadeira imagem da empresa, sendo feitas diretamente perguntas para os colaboradores, fica mais claro onde o verdadeiro foco do problema deve ser estudado, consequentemente fazendo deste estudo de caso ser mais abrangente e focado no verdadeiro problema raiz. Conclui-se que a empresa pode optar por melhorias, mas sempre levando em consideração o cenário atual do mercado para não se ter surpresas irreversíveis no futuro (sic).This study aims to promote an administrative restructuring of the company Bortolini Comercio de Alimentos, making an analysis of all its organizational structure, from its origin, its history to the present day. Analyzing possible methods and alternatives that can improve your activity and information flows. There is a company with great market potential, due to the time that it operates in its branch, already being established and focused on its business. However, it needs to be restructured in order to better organize the activities, as it encounters an overload of current employees that directly damages the organization's daily life, where all controls are still done manually, adjusting these details would facilitate the development of the company and enable better profitability and performance. In this way several specific purpose strategies can be implemented, more modern tools that are already used in the market can help in the innovation of the organization. In addition to tools, other strategies such as its placement in the market, the possibility of hiring more employees and the opening of new clients will be thoroughly explained, to enable a possible growth of the organization as a whole. In this research the qualitative approach was used, verifying all the internal behavior of the company and external scenario, thus allowing a great explanation of its competitors and how they are acting in the market. Exploratory research enables the company's true image to be directly asked questions to employees, it becomes clear where the real focus of the problem should be studied, thus making this case study more comprehensive and focused on the real root problem. It is concluded that the company can opt for improvements, but always taking into account the current market scenario so as not to have irreversible surprises in the future (sic)

Vanadium (V) peroxocomplexes: Structure, chemistry and biological implications
No full textA short account on the identification in solution of diverse type of vanadium peroxocomplexes is offered. The methodology used is a combination of several techniques, i.e., multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and theoretical calculation. The analysis has been carried out in aqueous alcoholic solutions, and in some case also in the presence of appropriate ligands, in order to model some of the natural conditions where vanadium-dependent haloperoxidase enzymes (VHPO) work. With the results obtained, it has been possible to shed light on important aspects of the catalytic cycle of VHPO. Furthermore, a number of synthetic aspects of the reactivity of the various vanadium peroxocomplexes is reviewed
Mass spectrometric characterization of high‐valent metal‐oxo, ‐peroxo and ‐peroxy intermediates of relevance in oxidation processes
No full textThe coupling of mass spectrometry with ionization techniques like electrospray ionization (ESI) or matrix-assisted matrix-assisted laser desorption-ionization (MALDI) offers many advantages over other well-established spectroscopic techniques employed for the investigation of intermediates or short-lived species in condensed-phase. In this review we describe some of the applications of mass spectrometry, in particular of ESI-MS to the detection and characterization of high-valent metal-oxo, -peroxo and -peroxy derivatives, crucial intermediates in the oxyfunctionalization of organic substrates. In addition, by utilizing gas-phase ion-molecule reactions and MS/MS experiments, information on the intrinsic reactivity of the short-lived intermediates may be obtained. The combined use of ESI-MS in association with other spectroscopic techniques and theoretical calculations is discussed as well. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc

No full textAs much as Robert Bellah's final work, Religion in Human Evolution, has been studied and dissected, no critic underlined the importance of psychoanalysis for its main argument and its theoretical framework. The paper shows the influence exerted by a controversial interpreter of Freud, Norman O. Brown, on Bellah's ideas, intellectual profile, and writing style in the late-1960s and early 1970s. While in search for a new intellectual voice, Bellah was struck by Brown's work and began to make intensive use of his book, Love's Body, both in his teaching and in his research of the early 1970s, during his so-called "symbolic realism" period. While Bellah abandoned Brown's ideas and style in the mid-1970s, some of the basic intuitions he had during that period still survived as one of the major theoretical intuitions of Religion and Human Evolution
