Observations on Situated Design, Theoretical Perspectives and Measurement of Player Experiences in Location Aware Games
Dissatisfied with the inefficiency and inadequacy of the “learning from experience” methodology in determining user reaction to their location-aware games, Blink approached two local universities, experienced in evaluation techniques deployed in human computer interaction, to form a partnership to address the evaluation of their creations. In this paper we present two examples of Blink's previous work to show the limitations of the common sense approach to evaluation as applied to the design of location aware events. Many unanswered questions relating to the gauging of user experiences are enumerated as the product of reflection on the experiences gained as a result of these location-aware games implementations. We then touch briefly on a theoretical discussion of the nature of these events, before introducing some proposed heuristics, informed by previous experience and theoretical discussion. These heuristics will be used in conducting a more structured evaluation of the next event, taking place in Autumn 2008
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Evaluating the Effectiveness of the Math Confidence Through Cubing Project Under the Bonner Leaders Program
The Bonner Leaders Program reduces the impact of poverty in the Houston community through service projects such as Math Confidence Through Cubing (MC^3). MC^3 works to bridge the gap in educational inequality by mentoring underserved 7th grade students at Navarro Middle School, a school in the eastside with a 90.4% Hispanic population and low math performance on the STAAR. The project combines traditional math tutoring and teaching the Rubik's cube to increase students' confidence and show that math, just like the cube are teachable skills. Additionally, the program has a character curriculum to increase students' confidence both for and outside of math. This study was created to see how effectively the program enhances students' math skills and confidence. Our evaluation found that despite the small population size, the program had a positive impact on math performance and math related confidence but better measures need to be made to properly assess the program's character curriculum.Psychological, Health, and Learning Sciences, Department ofHonors CollegeBiology and Biochemistry, Department ofMathematics, Department o
Nature areas for the nearby und just in time recreation using the example of the Bonner Hofgarten
This thesis contains a guide with suggestions for a mindful walk through the Bonner Hofgarten. The thesis at hand correlates the specific conception of man, which is the basis of organizational psychology, with the anthropological-philosophical conception of man of the integrative approach and shows how workplace health promotion activities can be deduced therefrom.Modern day-to-day workplaces high demands causing employees increasingly feel stressed out in recent times. Using the example of the Bonner Hofgarten, the guidance should therefore provide suggestions on how natural spaces in the direct vicinity of one’s workplace can be used for a timely recovery from everyday work by green exercises.https://www.fpi-publikation.de/gruene-texte/30-2019-silke-graffmann-nutzung-von-naturraeumen-zur-orts-und-zeitnahen-erholung-am-beispiel-des-bonner-hofgartens/peerReviewedpublishedVersio

Ordinary television: Analyzing popular TV
'Most cultural analysis focuses on the spectacular and the unusual. Frances Bonner has done us a great service by insisting on - and demonstrating - the importance of everyday TV. Ordinary Television breaks genuinely new ground' - Toby Miller, New York University In this book, Frances Bonner provides a distinctive angle on a key area of research and teaching across media and cultural studies - the content of television and the relations between television genres and audiences. Hitherto most books on television have focused on drama, or news and current affairs. In other words, they tend to ignore 'ordinary' television - lifestyle programmes and 'reality TV', just the sort of programmes which increasing dominate the schedules. In Ordinary Television, Frances Bonner makes a distinctive argument for regarding these disparate shows as a whole. By examining a substantial range of these programmes, Frances Bonner uncovers their shared characteristics, especially through a consideration of the dominant and disguised discources which pervade them. In addition, the comparative nature of her study enables the author to launch a powerful critique of conventional theories in relation to the globalization of television. This book will be invaluable reading for anyone interested in television and the media in general
