No full textIl saggio è costituito da due parti, la prima delle quali, dedicata alla fondazione della Federazione italiana delle biblioteche circolanti cattoliche, è stata pubblicata nel precedente numero dei «Nuovi Annali», XXVII (2013), pp. 137-163. In questa seconda parte viene delineata la figura intellettuale di Giovanni Casati, che diresse la «Rivista di letture» dal 1912 al 1944, trasformando il periodico della Federazione in una rivista impegnata nella divulgazione della cultura cattolica. A questo impegno militante Casati fece corrispondere un intenso programma editoriale, che trovò espressione nella pubblicazione di saggi letterari, di manuali e opere repertoriali.The study consists of two parts; the first is dedicated to the history of the Federazione italiana delle biblioteche circolanti cattoliche since its foundation (1904) up to 1912 and was published in the previous volume of the «Nuovi Annali », XXVII (2013), pp. 137-163. In this second part, the author outlines the intellectual figure of Giovanni Casati, who directed the «Rivista di letture» from 1912 to 1944, transforming the magazine of the Federation in a journal engaged in the spreading of Catholic culture. To this militant engagement Casati matched an intense publishing program, which found its expression in the publication of literary essays, manuals and reference works

Il novelliere di Giovanni Sercambi da Lucca non fa eccezione, anche se l’autore non ha una cultura giuridica né s’interessa in modo specifico al diritto. Il presente saggio vuole analizzare sotto tale profilo queste novelle per verificare quale concezione del diritto emerge da esse e come la narrazione ne risulti arricchita.In the late medieval and humanistic novellas, owing to their very realistic character, the right is an important central and inevitable element in community life. Giovanni Sercambi’s novelliere is no exception even if the author lacks a legal culture, nor is specifically interested in right. Mechanical modeling of bend sensors exploited to measure human joint movements
No full textFlexibility, lightness, wearability and cheapness are the most important features for a successful adoption of bend sensors, being they fundamental elements to realize systems able to convert static positions and movements into electrical signals. Even though these sensors have been employed for many different applications, the focal aspect of their mechanical modeling is still not adequately considered. For such a reason the aim of this paper is to fill a lack concerning the method of bend sensors mechanical characterization and modeling. The results have been exploited to realize an instrumented glove able to measure finger joints movements

Advanced characterization of piezoresistive sensors for human body movement tracking
No full textDue to their pliability, sensitivity and cheapness, piezoresistive sensors can be usefully adopted to recover joint bend angles in human body movement tracking. After providing quasi-static and dynamic electrical characterization of piezoresistive sensors, the authors develop a simple and accurate RLC model fitted on sensor electrical response under fast deformation and relaxation movements, which allows to predict the actual device behavior in tracking body fast movements

Probably the author wrote this hagiography when he was abbot and before becoming bishop of Pistoia. He re-elaborated the Life of the saint by Andrea of Strumi, adapting it to a changed historical and ecclesiastical context. The text was successful among the Vallombrosan Order and it was used by later hagiographers to create epitomes and rewritings of the Life of Giovanni Gualberto

Giant "Dumbbell" Thoracic Schwannoma: Radical Excision of Rare Lesion in One Surgical Time by Combined Neurosurgical and Thoracoscopic Approach
No full textDumbbell-shaped schwannomas are slow-growing tumors that are typically benign lesions. They account for 6%–14% of spinal neoplasms, with 30% having intradural and extradural components.1 A schwannoma is considered “giant” if it extends beyond the spine by >2.5 cm and involves more than 2 vertebral levels.2 The Eden classification categorizes these tumors into 4 types on the basis of the primary component.3 Surgery is recommended for individuals experiencing prolonged nerve damage and persistent neurogenic pain that cannot be managed.2 There are 3 surgical options for managing thoracic dumbbell schwannomas4: the single-stage posterior-only approach,5 the single-stage anterior-only approach,6 and the single-stage combined posteroanterior neurosurgical and video-assisted thoracoscopic approach. The latter option allows for the most comprehensive lesion control including vascular and nerve structures and optimal hemostasis control. It also avoids spinal instrumentation and provides certainty for complete tumor removal.7 Video 1 shows a surgical procedure performed on a 58-year-old woman to remove a thoracic dumbbell neurinoma. The patient consented to the procedure and publication of her image. A simultaneous thoracoscopic and neurosurgical approach was performed. The surgical team successfully removed the schwannoma, and the patient's recovery was smooth, with no neurologic issues or pain. This case highlights the benefits of using a single-stage combined approach for treating Eden II and Eden III giant dumbbell thoracic schwannomas
