Qualitative Research: A Grounded Theory Example and Evaluation Criteria

    No full text
The qualitative research paradigm, although occasionally applied, is not widely discussed in agribusiness and agricultural economics literature. The primary goals of this paper are (a) to present insights into qualitative research approaches and processes by outlining grounded theory as an example of a systematic and rigorous qualitative approach, and (b) to discuss criteria for scientific rigor applicable to qualitative research. In addition, assessing qualitative research is demonstrated by using a published example.management research, methodology, qualitative research methods, reliability, validity, Research Methods/ Statistical Methods,

Determination of S-benzoylthiamine in blood and tissue by HPLC

In the present study, a specific and sensitive HPLC-method for the determination of BTMP, one of the most important lipophilic thiamine derivatives, and its major metabolite S-benzoylthiamine (SBT) in blood and tissue, was developed. Blood, brain, heart, liver and kidneys of BTMP fed wistar rats were used for the analytical investigations. Thiamine concentrations of blood and tissue were determined before and after cysteine-incubation (debenzoylation of BTMP to thiamine monophosphate and SET to thiamine) by reversed-phase HPLC and the common thiochrome method. The amount of BTMP respectively SET is calculated by the difference in the thiamine concentration obtained with the two assays

The bioavailability of thiaminehydrochloride and S-benzoylthiamine-O-monophosphate - using an animal model

The bioavailability of Thiamine-HCL and BTMP was studied with 28 male wistar-rats. Two groups received an optimized Thiamine-HCL or BTMP dosage and two other groups a high dosage in equimolar amounts. The Thiamine(Sigma)-concentrations (TDP+TMP+Thiamine) in blood and brain were analysed with HPLC. In the BTMP-groups Thiamine(Sigma) and TDP (the coenzyme of Thiamine) were significant higher in blood and brain, than in the equimolar Thiamine-HCL-groups. The results demonstrate the superior bioavailability of BTMP

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
