Is pleased to inform him that the application for public house licence withdrawn, applicant preferring to keep his Colonial Wine Licence.. “a march was stolen upon us in the shape of a Grocers License.. granted to a person who previously had only a Wine and Spirit License”. Would have objected but for having misunderstood advertisement. Has received circular inviting action for coming elections, and would be pleased to help; but “the want of an enlightened temperance sentiment among the people of the town is a serious drawback to the few of us that are consistent abstainers. The only Temperance body here the Rechabites owing to internal eruptions cannot find time to bother about political matters and our district being so large I cannot see any way in which we could co-operate with other parts of the Electorate”. Harrett and J. will do what they can to forward cause at election time. Not qualified to vote because only came of age after registrar closed. Sends 5/- subscription to the Alliance and 1/6 for copy of the National Temperance League’s Annual. Will canvas for a few subscriptions.140009
