The dissertation approaches the dilemma of «Clitophon»'s authenticity from different perspectives. It offers an introduction, a translation and a thorough and updated analysis of the text and of the many issues that it elicits. Some stylometric tools were deployed along with the traditional research methods. If, as it seems, the author of the dialogue is not Plato, it may have been written by a member of the Academy of his time
Criti. fr. 5 W.2 e la silloge teognidea
One of the two elegiac poems that Critias addressed to Alcibiades (fr. 5 W.2) may contain a further allusion to the Theognidean sylloge, in addiction to the one concerning the sphragis (seal). Such an hypothesis seems to be supported by Libanius’ testimony (Decl. 1,62) about the criticism Socrates once directed at the supposedly alluded verses (Theogn. 173-178). It therefore seems plausible that they were well known to both Critias and Alcibiades and perhaps even used by the former to convey an anti-democratic message

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical presentation and the surgical procedures of ovarian lesions in a large group of girls. Materials and Methods: The medical records of all girls with ovarian lesions admitted to 2 pediatric centers over a 9-year period were reviewed. Presenting symptoms, diagnostic studies, surgical procedure and pathological findings were analyzed. Results: A total of 104 pediatric patients with 111 ovarian lesions(7 girls presented bilateral pathology)were reviewed. The average age was 13,7 years(range: 3 months - 18 years). The most common presenting symptom was abdominal pain(73 cases-65,7%). All girls underwent trans-abdominal US; in 29(26,1%), trans-vaginal US was also performed. Twenty-three(20,7%)required abdominal CT or MRI. Laparoscopy was used in 40(36%); conservative, open or mini-invasive, surgery was possible in 48 cases(43,2%).Pathology showed non neoplastic lesions in 60(54%), follicular cysts(FC)in 33 and hemorrhagic corpus luteum cyst(HCLC)in 27; benign tumors were 47(42,3%)while 5 cases were malignant(4,5%). Twenty cases(18,1%)were treated in emergency; we found 8 HCLC and 7 FC, 3 teratomas and 2 twisted normal ovaries. All patients, except one with yolk-sac tumor, are alive and disease-free. Conclusions: Our experience confirms that often pediatric ovarian lesions present with complications (torsion or rupture)requiring treatment in emergency and extensive surgery. This is the reason why they need to be suspected in any girl who presents abdominal pain, a pelvic or abdominal mass or gynecological endocrine disorders so to allow, whenever possible, conservative surgery to minimize the risk of decreased fertility

Ultrasound-Guided Bar Edge Labeling in the Perioperative Assessment of Nuss Bar Removal
INTRODUCTION:
Nuss bar removal after minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum in patients where bar ends are not palpable, can be a challenging procedure for the surgeon; a blind dissection toward the bar edges may lead to intercostal vessels or deep intercostal muscle injuries. In this article, we describe a fast, repeatable, low-cost technique to detect bar edge and stabilizers.
METHODS:
A perioperative scan is performed by means of a portable ultrasonograph a few minutes before the operation. The bar edge stabilizer is detected as a hyperechogenic image with a concentric crescent while the bar edge is detected as a hyperechogenic dashed line with net edges. The scan is performed, and the actual projection on the skin of the metal plaque bulk is then labeled on the patient's chest by an ink marker.
CONCLUSIONS:
We believe that this method may improve morbidity, operative time, and consequently, hospitalization length and cost
Metasemantic abilities in spoken language in deaf and hearing bilinguals: an exploratory study
This study explored metasemantic awareness (MSA), as measured by a figurative language subtest of an Italian test of metalinguistic awareness (MLA), the TAM-3 (Pinto & Iliceto, 2007), in relation to different types of bilingualism, both unimodal and bimodal, in hearing and deaf adults. The research design allowed for multiple comparisons between groups with different linguistic status, ranging from monolingualism in a spoken language, to hearing unimodal bilingualism, hearing bimodal bilingualism, and deaf bimodal bilingualism. The influence of study qualification on metalinguistic performances was also explored by distinguishing, in each group, three levels ranging from High school (HS) to Master of Arts (MA) up to Doctorate (PhD). A total sample of 24 participants
was recruited (age range : 20-40 years), composed of 6 hearing monolinguals, 6 hearing unimodal bilinguals, 6 hearing bimodal bilinguals and 6 deaf bimodal bilinguals. A series of Student’s t tests for independent samples on the Linguistic (L) and Metalinguistic (ML) T scores of the figurative language subtest was performed. Results showed that differences were significant only in the ML scores, which measure the deepest level of MSA. While the hearing unimodal bilinguals obtained the highest performance, the monolinguals obtained the lowest. The hearing and the deaf bimodal bilinguals were positioned in the middle. A two factor ANOVA revealed that both factors, i.e. linguistic group and study qualification, affected ML performances. Hearing unimodal bilinguals and deaf bimodal bilinguals with a PhD achieved the highest levels. Results are discussed in light of the literature on the relationships between bilingualism and MLA
