THE REPRESENTATION AND RESIGNIFICATION OF TRAUMA IN SOLITO, A MEMOIR, BY JAVIER ZAMORA
This article aims to analyze the representation and resignification of trauma in Javier Zamora's Solito, a Memoir is an autobiographical account in which the author recounts his journey from El Salvador to the United States at the age of nine to reunite with his parents, who had emigrated there four years earlier. Guided by coyotes and unaccompanied, he crosses the border on his third attempt, after facing hunger, thirst, cold, and detention by the U.S. Border Patrol. According to the author, the book was written as a way to overcome trauma. In our analysis, we place the work within the set of narratives known as self-writing (Foucault, 2004; Lejeune, 2008, Hees, 2013), and then analyze it focusing on the experiences lived by the narrator, specifically addressing the issue of overcoming trauma based on the theoretical perspectives of Cathy Caruth (1995), Márcio Seligmann-Silva (2008), and Jhonathan Cohen (1985)
This project is related to the exploitation design of the “La Esperanza” quarry, located in the Gabriel Ignacio de Veintimilla parish, Guaranda canton, province of Bolívar, which aims to ensure the local government administration, a total production and a technical use of existing stone materials in the mining area. To achieve this purpose, this project takes into account the main technical, operational, economicfinancial and socio-environmental parameters, since all of them have a strong impact on mining production activities, as well as the geological and geotechnical information generated by the author
and laboratory tests. The technical parameters that are considered for the exploitation design of this quarry are: the number of banks, their geometric elements, depth of the quarry, daily production rate, and the size of the rock
fragments. The economic variables are related to the investment (capital), general costs, the reduction of costs for the activity. The social and environmental parameters are very important because they have to be carefully managed to ensure the project and guarantee benefits, both for the local government administration and for the community.
The project has been fully managed, since the volume of stone material reserves, the daily production rate, investment and profitability are very well balanced to guarantee adequate feasibility and a technical operation process
H. Marcuse.
Review—Micro and Nano-Engineering Enabled New Generation of Thermoelectric Generator Devices and Applications
As we are advancing our world to smart living, a critical challenge is increasingly pressing - increased energy demand. While we need mega power supplies for running data centers and other emerging applications, we also need instant small- scale power supply for trillions of electronics that we are using and will use in the age of Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Everything (IoE). Such power supplies must meet some parallel demands: sufficient energy supply in reliable, safe and affordable manner. In that regard, thermoelectric generators emerge as important renewable energy source with great potential to take advantage of the widely-abundant and normally-wasted thermal energy. Thanks to the advancements of nano-engineered materials, thermoelectric generators' (TEG) performance and feasibility are gradually improving. However, still innovative engineering solutions are scarce to sufficiently take the TEG performance and functionalities beyond the status-quo. Opportunities exist to integrate them with emerging fields and technologies such as wearable electronics, bio-integrated systems, cybernetics and others. This review will mainly focus on unorthodox but effective engineering solutions to notch up the overall performance of TEGs and broadening their application base. First, nanotechnology's influence in TEGs' development will be introduced, followed by a discussion on how the introduction of mechanically reconfigurable devices can shape up the emerging spectrum of novel TEG technologies. Randomized, Double-Blinded, Phase 2 Trial of WR 279,396 (Paromomycin and Gentamicin) for Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Panama
In this randomized, double-blinded Phase 2 trial, 30 patients with Leishmania panamensis cutaneous leishmaniasis were randomly allocated (1:1) to receive once daily topical treatment with WR 279,396 (15% paromomycin + 0.5% gentamicin) or Paromomycin Alone (15% paromomycin) for 20 days. The index lesion cure rate after 6 months follow-up was 13 of 15 (87%) for WR 279,396 and 9 of 15 (60%) for Paromomycin Alone (P = 0.099). When all treated lesions were included, the final cure rate for WR 279,398-treated patients was again 87%, but the final cure rate for Paromomycin Alone-treated patients was 8 of 15 (53.3%; P = 0.046). Both creams were well tolerated with mild application site reactions being the most frequent adverse event. The increased final cure rate in the WR 279,396 group in this small Phase 2 study suggests that the combination product may provide greater clinical benefit than paromomycin monotherapy against L. panamensis cutaneous leishmaniasisIn this randomized, double-blinded Phase 2 trial, 30 patients with Leishmania panamensis cutaneous leishmaniasis were randomly allocated (1:1) to receive once daily topical treatment with WR 279,396 (15% paromomycin + 0.5% gentamicin) or Paromomycin Alone (15% paromomycin) for 20 days. (Caryocaraceae) in preserved and degraded Cerrado areas in Brazil
This study aimed to characterize the reproductive system and determine the importance of pollinators for fruit production of C. brasiliense, an economically important tree, in preserved and degraded Cerrado areas in southeastern Brazil. For this purpose, we performed pollinator exclusion experiments to determine the frequency of self- and cross-pollination, and to determine fruit set. In general, fruit set was extremely low: only 2.92% and 2.71% of the flowers developed into fruits in the degraded and preserved areas, respectively. Fruit set by manual cross-pollination and natural (open) pollination were higher than self-pollination in both areas. Pollen deposition was significantly higher at night and in the preserved area, although a relatively high amount of pollen grains found in the stigmas during the day. The number of ripened and aborted seeds did not differ among areas, but fruits and seeds were heavier in the degraded area than in the preserved area. The abortion level was very high (64.5%), which may be related to low pollen quality due to selfing. Our study presents evidence that Cerrado degradation affects the reproductive biology of C. brasiliense, but whether such effect is a consequence of pollinator decline in degraded areas remains to be determined. The presentation of the authors' names and (or) special characters in the title of the pdf file of the accepted manuscript may differ slightly from what is displayed on the item page. Differences by country in academic production indexed in Scopus on intellectual property and innovation systems (2001-2021)
This paper aims to establish what are the differences by country in scientific production on intellectual property and innovation systems between 2001 and 2021? We use text mining, non-parametric statistics, and two specialized software (Bibliometrix and VosViewer) to indicate the differences in scientific production by country on innovation systems and intellectual property. We found that scientific production in the Asia Pacific and North American countries is, on average, higher than in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa. These last three regions do not exhibit statistically significant differences among themselves. On the other hand, the countries of Western Europe exceed the production levels of the countries of Eastern Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa. We identified that the topics in the scientific production of the most productive countries were related to case studies, technology transfer, triple helix, regional innovation systems, governance, open innovation, competitiveness, and innovation policies
