All-optical TDM data demultiplexing at 80 Gbit/s with significant timing jitter tolerance using a fiber Bragg grating based rectangular pulse switching technology
No full textWe demonstrate the use of fiber Bragg grating based pulse-shaping technology to provide timing jitter tolerant data demultiplexing in an 80 Gb/s all-optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) system. Error-free demultiplexing operation is achieved with ~6 ps timing jitter tolerance using superstructured fiber Bragg grating based 1.7 ps soliton to 10 ps rectangular pulse conversion at the switching pulse input to a nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM) demultiplexer comprising highly nonlinear dispersion shifted fiber (HNLF). A 2-dB power-penalty improvement is obtained compared to demultiplexing without the pulse-shaping grating. <br/

No full textThis collection contains the papers of Morris "Moe" Berg, who was a professional baseball player, linguist, lawyer, and international spy during WWII. Berg's papers are in the form of correspondence, contracts, telegrams, newspaper and magazine clippings.The Berg papers span the years 1924 to 1984, with the bulk of the material dating from 1930 to 1960. The collection features correspondences between Berg and Major League Baseball players: Alphonse âTommyâ Thomas, Ted Lyons, Johnny Neun, and Al Schacht. Included are correspondences about Berg between U.S Generals; Major Charles G. Wagner, Col. William J. Donovan, and U.S. diplomat Laurence Steinhardt, during his OSS employment. The Collection is organized in four series: Baseball Career, WWII Activities, Personal, and Object. This collection also includes all materials from a smaller collection (P-853) that has been dissolved and incorporated. Characterization of fracture liaison service non-responders after invitation by home visits and questionnaires
No full textThis study aimed to gain insight in specific characteristics and beliefs of FLS non-responders. Introduction The proportion of non-responding fracture liaison service (FLS) invitees is high but characteristics of FLS non-responders are unknown. Methods We contacted FLS non-responders by telephone to consent with home visit (HV) and to fill in a questionnaire or, if HV was refused, to receive a questionnaire by post (Q), to gain insight in beliefs on fracture cause and subsequent fracture risk. Results Out of 716 FLS invitees, 510 attended, nine declined, and 197 did not respond. Of these non-responders, 181 patients were consecutively traced and phoned until 50 consented with HV. Forty-two declined HV but consented with Q. Excluded were eight Q-consenters in whom no choice was offered (either HV or Q) and 81 patients who declined any proposition (non-HV|Q). 62% HV and Q could recall the FLS invitation letter. The fracture cause was differently believed between HV and Q; the fall (96% versus 79%, p = .02), bad physical condition (36% versus 2%, p = .0001), dizziness or imbalance (24% versus Q 7%, p = .03), osteoporosis (16% versus 2%, p = .02), and increased fracture risk (26% versus 17%, NS). Age >= 70, woman, and major fracture were significantly associated with HV consent compared to Q (OR 2.7, 2.5, and 2.4, respectively) and HV compared to non-HV|Q (OR 16.8, 5.3, and 6.1). Conclusion FLS non-responders consider fracture risk as low. Note, 50 patients (about 25%) consented with a home visit after one telephone call, mainly older women with a major fracture. No full textIn april 2019 is een archeologisch proefsleuvenonderzoek uitgevoerd in een plangebied aan de Hei en Boeicopseweg 103-103a in Hei en Boeicop (gemeente Vijfheerenlanden). De aanleiding voor het onderzoek was de aanvraag van een omgevingsvergunning met betrekking tot de sloop van de huidige bebouwing en de realisatie van een nieuwe woning. Als gevolg van grondverzet ten behoeve van de voorgenomen werkzaamheden zouden de oorspronkelijke bodem en daarmee eventueel aanwezige archeologische resten in het gebied worden verstoord.
In het plangebied geldt in het vigerende bestemmingsplan een dubbelbestemming Waarde Archeologie 1. Gezien de omvang en diepte van voorgenomen bodemingrepen was archeologisch onderzoek noodzakelijk. Op basis van vooronderzoek werd gold voor het noordelijke deel van het plangebied een hoge archeologische verwachting op de aanwezigheid van nederzettingsresten uit de periode Late-Middeleeuwen - Nieuwe tijd. Deze verwachting was met name gebaseerd op de aanwezigheid van een oude cultuurlaag en een terpachtige verhoging. Resten vielen in ieder geval minimaal vanaf een diepte van 50 cm -Mv te verwachten. In de rest van het plangebied en voor de overige archeologische perioden gold een lage archeologische verwachting.
Door de bevoegde overheid is besloten om voorafgaand aan de sloop van de huidige bebouwing een proefsleuvenonderzoek uit te voeren. In geval van behoudenswaardige archeologische resten kon eventueel een doorstart naar een opgraving plaatsvinden na een selectiebesluit van de bevoegde overheid; naar aanleiding van de resultaten van het veldwerk is dit laatste echter niet gebeurd.
Methode
Conform PvE zijn twee werkputten uitgezet. De ligging van de werkputten is te velde iets aangepast vanwege de werkelijke veldsituatie (kabels en leidingen). In de werkputten zijn met behulp van een graafmachine met gesloten gladde bak twee vlakken aangelegd, waarvan één vlak (vlak 1; diepte ca 0,3 m -NAP) direct onder de subrecente ophoging in de top van de vermeende oude woonheuvel en één eindvlak (vlak 2; diepte ca 0,7 - 0,8 m -NAP) in de top van het veen. Vlakken, sporen, vondsten en profielen zijn conform PvE gedocumenteerd.
Resultaten
Tijdens het proefsleuvenonderzoek zijn twee historische ophogingslagen en twee sporen aangetroffen uit de periode vanaf de Middeleeuwse ontginning, alsmede aardewerk, bouwkeramiek en glas. De jongste ophogingslaag valt op zijn vroegst te dateren in de late zestiende eeuw (zeventiende of achttiende eeuw lijkt ons echter waarschijnlijker), de oudste ophogingslaag was wegens gebrek aan vondstmateriaal niet nader te dateren. Ondanks het voorkomen van deze twee lagen is een middeleeuwse woonheuvel en/of terpzool niet als zodanig aangetroffen. De enige twee grondsporen waren een sloot en een muurtje uit de negentiende en/of twintigste eeuw. Hiermee is de verwachting vanuit het vooronderzoek niet bevestigd. De resten zijn ons inziens te schaars en inhoudelijk niet voldoende informatief om te spreken van een behoudenswaardige vindplaats
