The Life of Aesop
No full textHere is an engaging, imaginative approach to the life of Aesop in a paperback book of some 230 pages. There is a T of C at the beginning and a chronology at the end. Unfortunately, the page numbers do not appear on the pages themselves. There are twelve chapters tracking Aesop from his childhood to his death. The chapters are organized within three parts. Each part has a prologue. The key to the work is given in the preface. Thomas first correctly assesses the present situation: Very little is known of his life and the present book, I hope, shall to some extent satisfy that lacuna. His method he makes clear soon after: Where facts are missing I have papered over the gaps with a higher truth. For Thomas, Aesop is a symbol for everyman. Thomas himself aptly proclaims This is a work of imagination. I concur, and I have enjoyed watching Benny's imagination at work. The experience is helped by the black-and-white illustrations along the way. I am delighted to have received a copy of this book! Cataloguing this book has made me aware of Lulu Publishing. His work has been on the final ballot for the Nebula Awards for 12 of the past 13 years, and he holds 16 nominations in total. His first novel, The Hercules Text, was published in the celebrated Ace Specials series and won the Philip K. Dick Special Award. In 1991, McDevitt won the first $10,000 UPC International Prize for his novella, "Ships in the Night." The Engines of God was a finalist for the Arthur C. Warga Marunda yang dulunya banyak menjadi nelayan sekarang beralih profesi dikarenakan perairan Marunda yang merupakan tempat nelayan mencari tangkapannya sekarang menjadi perairan yang tercemar. Perairan yang terkena pencemaran limbah menjadikan populasi hasil tangkapan nelayan menjadi sangat berkurang. Banyaknya industri-industri yang melakukan pencemaran limbah menjadi faktor tercemarnya perairan Marunda, belum lagi sebagian limbah di Marunda merupakan limbah kiriman dari daerah di sekitar Marunda seperti Bekasi. Ditambah pencemaran limbah rumah tangga (sampah) yang tidak terkendali dengan baik menambah parah pencemaran limbah di Marunda. Bagaimana penerapan perundang-undangan lingkungan hidup dalam rangka penanggulangan pencemaran limbah di Marunda? Upaya dan hambatan apa yang dapat dilakukan dalam rangka penanggulangan pencemaran limbah? Penulis meneliti masalah tersebut dengan menggunakan metode penelitian hukum normatif dan metode penelitian hukum empiris. Data penelitian memperlihatkan penerapan perundang-undangan yang sangat kurang di Marunda. Begitu banyak upaya yang dilakukan menjadi percuma dikarenakan hambatan-hambatan penanggulangan limbah di Marunda sangat banyak dan sulit ditanggulangi.
