Differential equations with maximal monotone operators
The paper deals with multivalued differential equations in abstract spaces. Nonlocal conditions are assumed. The model includes an m-dissipative multioperator which generates an equicontinuous, not necessarily compact, semigroup. The regularity of the nonlinear term also depends on the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness. The existence of integral solutions is discussed, with a topological index argument. A transversality condition is required. The results are applied to a partial differential inclusion in a bounded domain in R n with nonlocal integral conditions. The model also includes an m-dissipative but not necessarily compact semigroup generated by a suitable subdifferential operator. (c) 2024 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier Inc. Treatment strategies for multiple sclerosis: when to start, when to change, when to stop?
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the central nervous system determined by a presumed autoimmune process mainly directed against myelin components but also involving axons and neurons. Acute demyelination shows as clinical relapses that may fully or partially resolve, while chronic demyelination and neuroaxonal injury lead to persistent and irreversible neurological symptoms, often progressing over time. Currently approved disease-modifying therapies are immunomodulatory or immunosuppressive drugs that significantly although variably reduce the frequency of attacks of the relapsing forms of the disease. However, they have limited efficacy in preventing the transition to the progressive phase of MS and are of no benefit after it has started. It is therefore likely that the potential advantage of a given treatment is condensed in a relatively limited window of opportunity for each patient, depending on individual characteristics and disease stage, most frequently but not necessarily in the early phase of the disease. In addition, a sizable proportion of patients with MS may have a very mild clinical course not requiring a disease-modifying therapy. Finally, individual response to existing therapies for MS varies significantly across subjects and the risk of serious adverse events remains an issue, particularly for the newest agents. The present review is aimed at critically describing current treatment strategies for MS with a particular focus on the decision of starting, switching and stopping commercially available immunomodulatory and immunosuppressive therapies

Il saggio percorre il lungo tragitto della predicazione delle donne valdesi dal XII al XVI secolo, utilizzando differenti tipologie documentarie (e fonti inedite) e inseguendo le predicatrici itineranti negli spazi della presenza valdese. Si tratta di una visione "di scorcio", mai frontale, mancando le testimonianze dirette dlle donne, che nella ricostruzione dei frammenti documentari permette di cogliere la "parola delle donne", le valenze religiose e di consolidare la presenza di predicatrici apostoliche itineranti accanto agli uomini
Frate Dolcino da Novara : sorores eretiche e sorores eremite
L'eresia di Dolcino da Novara mostra peculiare attenzione per il ruolo femminile. Nel saggio vengono indagate alcune figure di primo piano, ma non solo, che permettono di gettare luce su un inaspettato sviluppo della religiosità delle sorores apostole di Dolcino: in seguito alla conversione, le ritroviamo come sorores recluse. Dalla scelta di itineranza ereticale passano quindi ad una vita stanziale segregata a dimostrazione dei molteplici esiti degli sviluppi di queste vivaci esperienze religiose
Interfacial reactivity and morphology at the Au/NiO(001) interface
The interest on metal-oxide interfaces is stimulated stimulated by the applications in many fields, such as catalysis, magnetic ecording, hard coatings. In the first stages of growth, gold nanoparticles dispersed on different oxides exhibit unusual electronic properties, depending on cluster size and gold-substrate interaction [1,2]. In particular a partial charge transfer
can occur, especially when the substrate is defective since gold tends to nucleate on oxygen vacancies. Thus the properties of goldoxide systems are critically dependent on interface reactions, in turn influenced by substrate preparation. A deeper understanding of the reactivity at the gold-oxide interface is essential to determine and control properties and behaviour of supported gold clusters. In this work we present a study of Au nucleation on top of 10 ML NiO film on Ag(001). By means of XPS, XPD and STM/AFM we studied electronic properties and morphology of the first stages of growth. It was previously reported that deposition of 15 A Au on NiO/Ag(001) causes oxide reduction [3]. We provide detailed and quantitative description
of the chemical interactions at this interface. From these results we aim to determine a relation between NiO reduction and morphological modifications (cluster formation and step decoration) in order to understand the driving force of the reduction process. Similar metal-oxide interfaces have been
also studied [4,5] to identify a general trend
in nucleation and reaction processes. In particular Fe, Pt on NiO and Fe, Pt, Au on MgO have been comparatively investigated.

Cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers in clinically isolated syndromes and multiple sclerosis
A panel of three cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) markers for clinically isolated syndromes (CIS) and multiple sclerosis (MS), based on SDS-PAGE, 2-D maps, and immunoblot results, is here proposed. No individual marker has any specificity, though, since they appear in a number of other neurological diseases. However the set of three, with the respective modulation sign (up-regulated or maintained at constant level), appears to be unique for MS. These proteins are: tau protein (levels remaining constant and undistinguishable from controls, contrary to up- and down-regulation in other neurological disorders); 14-3-3 protein (strong upregulation of distinct isoforms) and cystatin C (changing in accordance to disease stage and progression). As an additional evidence, one can rely in the pattern of isoforms of 14-3-3, as obtained by 2-D maps and Western blot analysis: this pattern further distinguishes the variation of this protein from other neurological syndromes, notably sporadic Creutzfeldt-jakob disease (sCJD), motor neuron diseases and other dementias. In contrast, a similar qualitative and quantitative upregulation of 14-3-3 is observed in Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), a demyelinating condition affecting the peripheral nervous system. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time in which such a panel of biomarkers is reported in MS
