Bigger, faster, stronger! An overview of anabolic androgenic steroids and their use and impact on the sport industry
Get PDFThe use of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) in sport is no longer confined to the power disciplines and has become a wide-spread issue throughout the general population. AAS are synthetic versions of the male hormone testosterone and display both anabolic and androgenic properties. It is the anabolic properties that are responsible for the muscle binding characteristics and are the main attraction for users. The primary purpose of this review was to provide an overview of the use of AAS in the sports industry by outlining the history of AAS use, the role of AAS in the Olympic success of Soviet athletes and the German Democratic Republic. Furthermore, case studies of the high profile cases of Ben Johnson, Marion Jones and Lance Armstrong were also examined along with the consequences of their drug use. Also outlined are the reasons for AAS use, the variety of ways in which they are used and short and long-term adverse side effects associated with their use. This research has highlighted problems with previous AAS literature as there is a lack of research into the long-term side effects of AAS use

No full textيتخذ الكاتب المسرحي في مرحلة تأليف وكتابة النص أسلوباً خاصاً به لتناول وطرح ظاهرة اجتماعية معينة ومن بين تلك الأساليب، أسلوب عزل الممارسات الاجتماعية السلبية الشاذة والسخرية منها ومحاولة إيجاد حلول لها بزجها في متن النص المسرحي الكوميدي وتقديمها عبر عدد من المواقف والأفكار والأساليب الأدبية منها كالمفارقة والسخرية والتهكم ويعد (بن جونسون) من بين الكتاب الإنكليز اللذين صاغوا المشهد الكوميدي بطريقة (التهكم) لطرح مواقف ومشاكل اجتماعية تكشف لنا عن نوع من الأحداث التي تلامس حياة الإنسان ومستقبلة وحاضرة، مما دعت الحاجة إلى دراسة النصوص المسرحية التي كتبت حواراتها بطريقة تهكمية، وقد تضمن الفصل الأول على الاطار النظري الذي اشتمل على مشكلة البحث التي صيغت بالتساؤل الآتي: (ما التهكم في نصوص بن جونسون المسرحية) ثم أهمية البحث والحاجة إليه تكمن في دراسة مفهوم التهكم والتعرف على مرجعياتها الفكرية والفنية والفلسفية وهدف البحث في التعرف على التهكم في نصوص بن جونسون المسرحية وكانت حدود الزمان (1957-1633) وحدود المكان (إنكلترا) وحدود الموضوع (التهكم في نصوص بن جونسون المسرحية) أما الفصل الثاني فقد تضمن مبحثين اشتمل المبحث الأول على محورين الأول فيها تضمن دراسة التهكم المفهوم والمصطلح، أما المحور الثاني فقد تضمن مفهوم التهكم فلسفياً، أما المبحث الثاني اشتمل على دراسة التهكم في المسرح عالمياً وعربياً، أما الفصل الثالث فقد تضمن مجتمع البحث الذي تكون من (20) نصاً مسرحيا واخترتُ عينة واحدة للتحليل هي مسرحية (الكيميائي)، وكان من بين أهم النتائج:
1-أسهم التهكم في ضرورة المواجهة لكشف عيوب السلطة والفئة الحاكمة والتعرض لسلوكياتها وأفعالها.
2- أدى وجود التهكم في النص إلى ظهور العديد من المواقف الغامضة والالتباسات التي تمر بها الشخصيات المسرحية التي تمثل انعكاساً للواقع الإنساني. أما أهم الاستنتاجات فكانت:
1- يتجلى التهكم بوصفه ردة فعل لانتقاد سلوكيات السلطة الغاشمة.
2-النص المسرحي الحامل (للتهكم) أدى إلى الانفتاح الواسع على عدد من الدلالات الرمزية التي تقود للوصول إلى عدد من المعاني والصور الذهنية والأفكار المقروءة من المتلقي.Among the methods used for social treatment is the method of isolating abnormal practices and mocking them and placing them in the spotlight to reveal their negatives and thus search for solutions to them. As for the second axis, it included philosophical sarcasm. The second topic was concerned with studying sarcasm in the theater and concluded the chapter with the indicators that resulted from the theoretical framework. As for the third chapter, it included the research procedures and samples, the research tool and method, and one sample was chosen, which is the play of the chemist), and the most important results were:
1-Ben Johnson\u27s sarcasm is a case of treating negative and bad attitudes
2-Ben Johnson\u27s ability to create a well-crafted sarcastic strategy that provokes laughter.
The most important conclusions were
1-Find the successful alternative to sarcasm for all problems, even if it is mentally in the mind.
2-Cynicism manifests as a reaction to every brute authority
