    John W. Beaumont Memorial Tower

    The carillon in the John W. Beaumont Memorial Tower at Michigan State University is a traditional carillon of 49 bells. The instrument started in 1928 with 10 bells that were cast by the Gillett and Johnston Bell Foundry (Croydon, England, GB). Ten of those bells remain. In 1930, it was enlarged to 13 bells by the Gillett and Johnston Bell Foundry. Three of those bells remain. In 1935, the instrument was enlarged to 23 bells by the Gillett and Johnston Bell Foundry. All ten of those bells remain. In 1950, the carillon was enlarged to 37 bells by the Petit and Fritsen Bell Foundry (Aarle-Rixtel, Holland, NL). None of the bells from that work remain. In 1952, the carillon was enlarged to 43 bells by the Petit and Fritsen Bell Foundry. None of those bells remain. In 1957, the carillon was enlarged to 47 bells by the Gillett and Johnston Bell Foundry. Those four bells remain. In 1996, the carillon was enlarged with 22 bells that were cast by the Royal Eijsbouts Bell Foundry (Asten, Holland, NL)
