Cotylogaster basiri Siddiqi & Cable, 1960 (Aspidobothrea: Aspidogastridae) in Pogonias cromis (Linnaeus, 1766) (Perciformes: Sciaenidae): first report from Brazil

Abstract Up until now, there have been few studies of the helminth fauna of Brazilian populations of Pogonias cromis. In North America, P. cromis is known to be a definitive host of Cotylogaster basiri, although there have been no reports of any species of Cotylogaster infecting fish in Brazil. During necropsies of marine fish obtained from professional fisherman in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, specimens of C. basiri were found in the intestine and rectum of P. cromis. In comparison with previous studies, differences were found in relation to the number of lobes in the buccal disc and the development of the biocellate larvae in the eggs of C. basiri. This is the first report of C. basiri in P. cromis from Brazil, contributing to the understanding of the helminth fauna of this fish from the coastal zone of Brazil.</div

Effect of different plants, singly and in combinations, on the attraction of adult Xiphinema basiri

    No full text
Observations on the effect of different plants, singly and in combinations of two plants, were made on the attraction of adult Xiphinema basiri in agar plates. Cabbage and tomato were most attractive, carrot and brinjal moderately attractive, chilli and radish least attractive while onion and mustard failed to attract nematodes significantly when tested alone, or together in one combination. The differential attraction behaviour of X. basiri is attributed to the plant root attractants and the intensity of the attractants

ABSTRACT In this paper, we describe, for the first time in Venezuela, an aspidogastric trematode indentified as Cotylogaster basiri Siddiqi and Cable, 1960, found in the stomach of Archosargus unimaculatus. We discuss identification of this species and we present a comparative table with its morphological and morphometric characteritics, together with some other data.   KEY WORDS: Aspidogastrids, Aspidocotylea, Cotylogaster, Sparidae

A Vision-Based Algorithm for a Path following Problem

    No full text
A novel prize-winner algorithm designed for a path following problem within the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) field is presented in this paper. The proposed approach exploits the advantages offered by the pure pursuing algorithm to set up an intuitive and simple control framework. A path for a quad-rotor UAV is obtained by using downward facing camera images implementing an Image-Based Visual Servoing (IBVS) approach. Numerical simulations in MATLAB® together with the MathWorksTM Virtual Reality (VR) toolbox demonstrate the validity and the effectiveness of the proposed solution. The code is released as open-source making it possible to go through any part of the system and to replicate the obtained results
