Storicismo e filosofia pratica: G. Cacciatore interprete di Croce

    No full text
In this essay, the author attempts to trace the entire path of the reading provided by Giuseppe Cacciatore on the work of Croce. The subject is particularly meaningful as it allows to deal with an interpretation of the views elaborated by Croce among the “problematic historicism”, thus on a distinct critic orientation, other than the positions of the philosopher of Pescasseroli, but, still, able to tickle an analysis – still to be deepened – on the relation between them. Following this perspective, the main themes of the Practical Philosophy, and Civil Philosophy and of the Criticism on finalism emerge

Filosofia della prassi e americanismo. Spunti e appunti per una discussione su Gramsci

    No full text
Such short essay concentrates on the interaction whit the thesis expressed by Alberto Burgio in his recent volume Per Gramsci (Roma, DeveriApprodi, 2007), which tries a critical thematising of the euristic-categorial patrimony coming from the gramscian elaboration, to obtain a penetrating reading of modernity. It is especially focused on the way in which, in the volume, the topic of the link between cosmopolitism and period meaning of americanistic circle is explained, and, in the light of such problems, that of the specificity of fascist phenomenon: underling, above all, how the gramscian investigation of the constitution of an unprecedented world order, facing the crumbling of the coincidency between sovreignty and nation state, is specified ad alternative to any deterministic hypothesis of crisis theory

Il cinquantennale della morte di K. Marx (1933) e l'analisi del Risorgimento. Aspetti del carteggio di Togliatti con Longo per la redazione de «Lo Stato Operaio»

    No full text
The essay attempts to reconstruct the correspondence between Palmiro Togliatti and Luigi Longo regarding the celebration, in 1933, of the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Karl Marx in the PCd’I journal «Lo Stato Operaio». In this respect, a comparison is attempted with the directives expressed by the Communist International. Moreover, the article attempts to highlight the importance that in this correspondence the themes of the relationship with the Risorgimental tradition assume, starting with Marx’s and Engel’s interpretation. This will lead to remarking how this celebratory campaign was closely related with the resump- tion of the ‘united front’ policy, in particular with regard to the socialists. Da Valentino Annibale Pastore a Giovanni Gentile. Ancora sull’ambiente culturale del giovane Gramsci

    No full text

A dwarf among giants? Party competition between ethno-regionalist and state-wide parties on the territorial dimension: The case of Italy (1963–2013)

    No full text
Scholars of party politics have recently examined the influence of niche parties on the dynamics of party competition. In particular, drawing on the ‘Position, Salience and Ownership’ (PSO) model, it has been argued that when a new niche actor enters the political arena, it seeks to introduce a new policy dimension into political debate and simultaneously affects the competitive strategies of mainstream actors. By using manifesto data, this article analyses the impact of the Lega Nord on political discourse in Italy relating to the territorial dimension. Its findings challenge the assumptions of the PSO theory on niche-mainstream dynamics of competition. The article argues that, firstly, niche parties can mobilise on a policy dimension that has long been present on the political agenda; secondly, that niche party influence on mainstream party strategies is limited, at least when compared with the influence of other systemic variables. Nevertheless, the role of niche parties can be re-evaluated by considering a further strategic tool that parties can use to define their strategies, namely framing. In particular, the article argues that the Lega Nord has introduced a new language into political debate on the territorial dimension, which has required rival parties to react by reframing and redefining these issues differently from the past. Using an original coding scheme for the measurement of party attitudes in party manifestos, the article provides empirical grounds for arguing that a consideration of rhetoric should be included in any analysis of the competitive strategies of political parties in a two-dimensional space

Measuring party strategies on the territorial dimension: a method based on content analysis

    No full text
ABSTRACT: This article proposes an innovative coding scheme for the content analysis of party manifestos, one designed to estimate party strategies on the territorial dimension and based on a solid theoretical framework. It builds on existing scholarly efforts on party positioning, while adding further theoretical and methodological insights. The proposed coding scheme first conceives of party strategies as the combination of three tools, namely the manipulation of salience and positioning and the framing of policy preferences. Second, it points out the importance of distinguishing between purposely vague and ‘blurred' positioning and ‘contradictory' but clear and nuanced positioning. The functioning of this content analysis framework is illustrated through its application to Italian party manifestos issued between 1963 and 2013. Their analysis provides an overview of the substantive research questions that can be addressed with this coding scheme. This article also illustrates the potential of the instrument, which can be extended to policy dimensions other than the territorial one
