No full textJames Barker was the ranch manager of the Hearst family's 1-million acre ranch in Chihuahua, Mexico in 1915, during the Mexican Revolution. General Francisco (Pancho) Villa, Mexican revolutionary and politician, put a bounty of $10,000 on Barker, causing him to flee Mexico to the United States.
Donald R. Heath conducted an oral history interview with James (Jim) Barker on March 10, 1967. Meredith Barker Heaner, James Barker's daughter, transcribed the original interview in 1982, and also transcribed Barker's unfinished manuscript in 1984. Both the oral history transcription and the unpublished manuscript transcription are included in this record.
