    This interview was conducted by Dr. George Garrison with Mr. Lewis Calvin Barber for his History of Emmett Scott High School project. Emmett Scott was the segregated high school for African Americans in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The school was named for Emmett Scott a former aide to Booker T. Washington and President Woodrow Wilson. Emmett Scott High School was opened in 1920 and closed in 1970 with the integration of the Rock Hill School District. Mr. Barber is an alumnus of Emmett Scott. He attended from 1936 to 1942. Mr. Barber discusses his experiences at Emmett Scott High School. He details the courses that were offered as well as the interaction of the school with the community in the early days of the school. Mr. Barber was also a principal in York, South Carolina at Jefferson High School, a school for African Americans in the York School District. He discusses the difficulties of the segregated system from both the student and professional viewpoint.
