The publication Turps Banana presents open dialogues about contemporary painting with an established format of conversational but historically informed modes of writing. This format includes presenting a series of articles of painters reflecting on the work of another painter. This article considers the development, over the past 6 years, of the work of painter Barbara Nicholls. Specifically, there is reflection on the status of the large scale watercolours exhibited at a recent solo exhibition, "Sedimentary Flow" at the New Gallery Walsall (2017).
