A cognitive architecture for music perception exploiting conceptual spaces

    No full text
A cognitive architecture for a musical agent is presented. The architecture extends an architecture for computer vision previously developed by the author by taking into account many relationships between vision and music perception. The focus of the agent architecture is an intermediate conceptual area between the subconceptual and linguistic areas. A conceptual space for the perception of tones and intervals is thus presented, based on the dissonance measure of the tones. Problems and future works of the proposed approach are finally discussed

Pharmacokinetics of azithromycin in lung tissue, bronchial washing, and plasma in patients given multiple oral doses of 500 and 1000 mg daily

The present study compares the pharmacokinetics of azithromycin in plasma, lung tissue, and bronchial washing after oral administration of 500 mg (standard dose) versus 1000 mg daily for 3 days. Samples were taken during surgery for lung resection at various time points up to 204 h after the last drug dose, and azithromycin levels were analyzed by HPLC method. Azithromycin was widely distributed within the lower respiratory tract; sustained concentrations of the drug were detectable at the last sampling time (204 h) in lung tissue and bronchial washing, with long terminal half-lives of 132.86 and 74.32 h at 500 mg daily and 133.32 and 70.5 h at 1000 mg daily, respectively. Doubling the drug dose resulted in a remarkable increase in lung area under the curve (AUC, 1318 hx mug g(-1) vs 2502 hx mug g(-1)) and peak tissue concentration (9.13 +/- 0.53 mug g(-1) vs 17.85 +/- 2.4 mug g(-1)). In addition to this, enhanced azithromycin penetration from plasma into bronchial secretion and lung tissue was evidenced by the increase in the ratio of AUC(bronchial) (washing) versus AUC(plasma) (2.96 vs 5.27 at 500 and 1000 mg, respectively) and AUC(lung) versus AUC(plasma) (64.35 vs 97.73 at 500 and 1000 mg, respectively). In conclusion, the exposure of lung and bronchial washing to azithromycin is increased by doubling the dose, which results in favorable pharmacokinetic profile of the drug in the lower respiratory tract

Damai Sejatera II thesis Nautical courses, Diploma IV, Polytechnic Sailing Science Advisor: (I)Dr.Capt.H.Sahabuddin Sunusi, M.T., M.Mar. (II) H.Amad Narto, M.Pd., M.Mar.E. Work accident is an event that is clearly undesirable and often unpredictable which can cause loss of good time, possessions, or fatalities. Each has a cause and the cause of the accident can be prevented or reduced through various measures. One effort to minimize workplace accidents is to use personal protective equipment (PPE). At the time of the author followed the practice of the sea in M.V. Damai Sejahtera II still many crew boat less aware of the importance of the use of personal protective equipment. Some is why, among others: (a) lack of discipline of the crew, (b)lack of standard operating procedures understood in the works (c) lack of self safety on board (d) lack of familirization the crew of the importance of the use of personal protective equipment. To minimize the occurrence of occupational accidents in M.V. Damai Sejahtera II do some strategies, namely (a)conducted familiarization and discussions about the events related accidents and the use of PPE(b)Disseminating the use of personal protective equipment, (c)implemented a more intense security of the use of PPE The use of personal protective equipment has several advantages, among others: (a) the security of guaranteed employment, (b) minimize work accidents, and (c) improved performance and productivity. Keywords: Dicipline, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE

Thrombosis of Kommerell’s diverticulum with subclavian steal phenomenon in a patient with non-small cell lung carcinoma under chemotherapy

AbstractKommerell’s diverticulum (KD) is defined as a bulbous dilatation of the origin of an aberrant subclavian artery due to a remnant of the left fourth aortic arch. We report the case of an asymptomatic woman in whom progressive thrombosis of the KD extending to the prevertebral tract of an aberrant right subclavian artery was detected at multidetector computed tomography imaging for lung cancer staging performed before and after the beginning of chemotherapy. Reversed blood flow in the ipsilateral vertebral artery due to subclavian steal phenomenon was also observed by color Doppler ultrasound examination

'Do it Yourself' Girl Revolution: LadyFest, Performance and Fanzine Culture

Riot grrrl began as an independent music and political movement in the early 1990s emerging initially in the USA and few years later in the UK. From the beginning riot grrrl embraced a 'do-it-yourself' ethos operating outside the mainstream music business organising independent music festivals, workshop events and encouraging self-published fanzines (fan magazines which were distributed primarily through word of mouth, music gigs, artists and zine book fairs or by post). These zines became recognisable forms of personal expression and made visible a specific DIY approach alongside the development of a coherent style of graphic language in the producer's use of the photocopier, handwritten and graffiti texts, cut-n-paste and ransom note lettering style, collage and the co-option of mainstream media imagery. These production techniques made fanzine publishing accessible and played a central role in the development of a non-hierarchical community. The main intent of this talk is to explore the idea of 'event as performance' using as a case study the specific activities of riot grrrl and focussing on a series of international events called 'LadyFests' and the graphic language of self-published riot grrrl fanzines. This will be achieved by examining the origins of today's riot grrrl performances (e.g. theatre, spoken word, music events) in 1970s feminist art, as well as locating the activities within the specific context of their counter-cultural predecesors including punk and punk performance
